You are not weird at all. Throughout time, both of those have been thought to have health benefits and been ingested because of .. in the meantime, they both taste pretty good. I eat some of each raw, not particularly expecting health benefits, but because of the flavor.. say garlic in Pico de Gallo or even some type of salad or salad dressing, and the same with ginger, for the flavor in a food or a drink.

Yes, there been many times in my life where I felt like if I ate a bunch of cloves of garlic or ate a lot of ginger it might cure me from something that I might ail from.
