Omg apricots with my chicken. or pork tenderloin. …bliss :relaxed:

sorry Salty and @RosaCanDo and @EarnIt! I’ll leave them out if we ever have a TS potluck

I did try a tapas appetizer once that was a roasted almond (whole), stuffed inside a date, wrapped in crispy bacon or prosciutto and drizzled with balsamic. No? Not even then fruit with your meat? (It was amazing. About a million calories, but when I hear “bacon” I stop counting!)

:innocent::innocent: I did make them.

Doing home improvement has given me a bit of a dilemma. I don’t really have a spot to keep this now. And I don’t have much use for it either as I never was a great fan of my mother’s cooking. Yet this is a special thing and I understand why I took it after her death. Her unique pre-internet filing system of recipes both hand written and glued-on cuttings on index cards is so very typically my mum. Writing about it there’s no dilemma actually. I can’t get rid of this. Not now. I’ll look for a recipe to cook.

That’s very cool Menno. There’s something like that kicking around here of my Nana’s. It’s in book form though.

I often think about how personal a thing handwriting is, and how great handwriting is really becoming a thing of the past. People used to pride themselves on their penmanship. As the generations pass, with technology being how it is, future generations likely won’t have mementos like this from their ancestors. I notice that even with myself, someone who grew up writing things by hand but rarely has to now, my hand gets quite tired after a paragraph or two of writing. Not to mention my handwriting has absolutely gone to hell - not that it was ever anything worth…writing home about, heh heh :joy:

I’ve heard they don’t even teach cursive writing in schools here anymore.

My Nana’s handwriting was remarkable, absolutely immaculate.

Oh I get it! There was actually some dispute for Mom’s recipe box, (so I simply took pics of my faves and removed myself from said dispute!), but I kept a few recipe books that are falling apart, her notes in the margins, etc. Why? Since so much of these are full of gluten? They are also so full of her. :orange_heart: :relaxed:

I think she re-wrote the lemon sauce recipe - since we ate it way before microwaves

Completely agree. My Dad’s printing/writing was amazing - he was a draftsman. I am going through some of his things I’ve kept, and there is something so personal, so intimate even, about seeing his handwriting still. I even kept his clipboard with half-completed crosswords puzzles that he kept by his bed! I tend to be a minimalist / non-clutter advocate, but these are gold to me :relaxed:
I love that there’s a book of your Nana’s recipes, in her writing. Have you made anything from it?

I haven’t - I’m not even so sure I have it in my possession, it’s quite possible it’s in my Mother’s house.

“intimate” is a good word for it. It is like a piece of someone.

My ex had a hand-written recipe from her grandmother that she got burned into a wooden cutting board and gave to her mother as a gift, I always thought that was a tremendously creative and thoughtful present.

I will absolutely eat a bacon wrapped date. I will actually eat anything. My preference is that they are kept separate, but I guarantee that if there is bacon on it or in it, I am probably eating it!

Tried something different tonight.
Pork Sausage over Autumn-Parsnip Bulgar Pilaf with apples and onions.
And a creamy lemon pepper sauce.

Wifey says “ it’s not as good as pasta”
I thought it was great!

I made an executive decision :foot:I don’t get to do that often :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Friday nights are going to be steak and potatoes night at Casa G’s. Easy grilling. Easy clean up.

And I had a couple of cute raccoons up in a treee watching me grill. Too dark for a pic though.

I slowly try other things. Positive thing about Lockdown. Opening the window I the block with knives fell down and I got a deep cut in my middle finger. Suits well to the red colour. :yum:

Non Alcoholic cloudberry gluhwein with raisins and almonds. We do have the “original” flavored too but I like this one better.

Pork loin roast, mashed potatoes with skins, gravy & veggies. I’m not a huge pork fan (except for bacon lol) but it was a good price

Really missing Italy today so decided to make a ribollita to honor my time spent in Tuscany :two_hearts: made sourdough croutons to soak in it too
