Foodies Unite #5 (trigger warning food) TAKE ANOTHER LITTLE PIZZA MY HEART!

It is sooo good  its going to disappear fast!

My grocer had gotten in an accidental case of extremely ripe cara cara oranges last year that were steeply discounted. I bought all of them and made the marmalade spontaneously out of panic they would not be appreciated up here and would go to waste…but it turned out so well. I only kept 4 small jars for myself and the rest were given away as gifts.

Well I’m finally taking care of my tomatillos and the tomatoes I got.

I’ll send updates. Small batches compared to @Thirdmonkey marathon freaking canning sessions but it will be good for me.

Our honey crisp tree produced some this year. Lots of blemishes and insects/hornets burrowing holes as we didn’t treat them with anything. Hopefully I’ll get some for snacking and some for cooking!

I like to bake mine like that too.

What’s the storage life when you can your own produce ?
Iv heard it can last years?
This is something I would love to get into as I really stock up on tinned foods from the supermarket that is just incase of another lockdown or emergency, and it looks fun to do whilst also cost efficient and healthier there are so many reasons to do this, and also being prepared If ever there is food shortage or emergency.

A couple years…depending on method and what it is. I try to can what I will use in a year.

General canning/food safety guidelines say 18 months. I’m still eating plums I canned 4 years ago. As long as you follow proper precautions and do a check over before eating, things can last a good while.

I’m going to do some research and you tube to teach myself.
Thanks. I love seeing pics of your foods

Figuring out what to make for Eric when he gets home, but this tasty salad helps. Lots of blue cheese! And plenty of veggies hiding under there too.

This may not seem like anything special to most. It IS only eggs :egg: , pancakes :pancakes:, and bacon :bacon:. But… this meal was something I made on my own without the help of hubby. AND he actually enjoyed it haha!! I have never known how to cook from scratch. I can bake no problem!! But I don’t have the chefs palate and I tend to overcook basically everything lol. So this meal was made with love and it actually turned out really well! I’m super impressed with myself :grinning:

Beautiful presentation. All three frames in order. I had no idea what it was you were making. And so unique.
It all sounds gorgeous.

Do you do shipping Julia?

That’s great! I think cooking just takes experience and a willingness to learn as you go what you like and what turns out well. Good for you!
