My grocer had gotten in an accidental case of extremely ripe cara cara oranges last year that were steeply discounted. I bought all of them and made the marmalade spontaneously out of panic they would not be appreciated up here and would go to waste…but it turned out so well. I only kept 4 small jars for myself and the rest were given away as gifts.
Our honey crisp tree produced some this year. Lots of blemishes and insects/hornets burrowing holes as we didn’t treat them with anything. Hopefully I’ll get some for snacking and some for cooking!
What’s the storage life when you can your own produce ?
Iv heard it can last years?
This is something I would love to get into as I really stock up on tinned foods from the supermarket that is just incase of another lockdown or emergency, and it looks fun to do whilst also cost efficient and healthier there are so many reasons to do this, and also being prepared If ever there is food shortage or emergency.
General canning/food safety guidelines say 18 months. I’m still eating plums I canned 4 years ago. As long as you follow proper precautions and do a check over before eating, things can last a good while.
This may not seem like anything special to most. It IS only eggs , pancakes , and bacon . But… this meal was something I made on my own without the help of hubby. AND he actually enjoyed it haha!! I have never known how to cook from scratch. I can bake no problem!! But I don’t have the chefs palate and I tend to overcook basically everything lol. So this meal was made with love and it actually turned out really well! I’m super impressed with myself
