Oh my goodness, amigos…the seal is a success! I’m so proud of myself :relaxed: Can’t wait to do more next year. I might pickle some asparagus or green beans :face_with_monocle: Now I’m going to research fermenting!

I was thinking during this whole process that the only way I’d even try this, much less be successful, is by being sober. What a shitshow that would have been back when I was drinking heavily. Thinking back to some disastrous meals, even a Thanksgiving or two  Glad I (we) can laugh about it now…

This is me in a nutshell! I’m inspired by you trying the canning. I’m so happy it worked out. I’ve thought about trying it but also have wanted to learn to garden. Currently about to try some home diy stuff. I think I’m having trouble nailing down something other than exercise lol

Having a hobby that produces something tangible is so satisfying. I’ve been a crafter/maker forever, knitting, painting, cooking, gardening, it all has that sort of satisfaction. DIY stuff is great! I hope you do pick something and run with it! (Pun intended :upside_down_face:)

Wooooooo!

What you say realy rings true with me. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, even in active addiction. So many times though, cooking while drunk or high, things would go awry. For me it wasn’t so much the dish. I was (usually) able to muster JUST enough to get the food cooked well. BUT….I’d either be driving myself anxious with the stress of perfectionism, fighting with my partner, or most likely: building quiet resentments towards people as I got drunker and then unleashing them like a venomous whip.

Now for me, cooking is a meditative practice of love, nourishment and clarity.

So excited for this new productive hobby of yours! :yellow_heart:

Exactly. I’d also be saying “this is terrible, it tastes awful, I failed, why didn’t you help me,” etc etc when things turned out just fine but the process and my drunken mental state was the disaster. What a joy now to be creating in the kitchen with a clear mind and to be gaining not just the sustenance but, like you said, the meditative calm and joy of the process and result (usually,, maybe not the first time canning!).

Thanks for sharing!

I woke up hungry! Wheat sandwich thins (which I will never buy again…) topped with low fat cream cheese, farm stand tomato, avocado and hot sauce, a hard boiled egg, and some sautéed baby spinach and red onion topped with feta (spinach needed to be used up). Hodge podge did the trick!
