Went grocery shopping hungry…never a good idea! Groceries in, quick muffin with muenster, turkey, avocado and romaine. Now to put said groceries away!

Local made plant-based ice cream at a little shop. Sooooo good! It doesn’t matter that it’s below freezing outside :joy: this was an apple crisp type flavour. Three-berry for kiddo.

Beef stock in progress using a couple of shanks. I probably needed one more, but they weren’t that cheap.

I had a sprouted grain mix and made oatmeal cookies. Not overly sweet which is nice. Added in some 70% dark chocolate chunks for good measure

Love a good deal! Happened upon a sale while grocery shopping and ended up with 15 lbs of meat for $20 - 10 lbs of chicken leg quarters (8), 3 lbs of ground beef and 2 lbs ground pork. All Iowa (local to me) sourced products. I’ve been trying to budget food costs better and this will help tremendously!

It didn’t amount to much quantity-wise, but believe me when I tell you this is the silkiest, most flavorful beef stock I’ve ever tasted! I will look for sales and even ask my butcher for meaty bones to make my own stock in the future. And this will be a lovely addition to my dish tomorrow.

Yup, so do I. And realistically I have plenty of room in my chest freezer so…:woman_shrugging:t2:

Tell me about the Szechuan pepper…I’ve heard a lot about it’s spice quality being more like a sort of numbing or effervescent effect than the “hot” spicy I’m used to. What do you think? I don’t have a lot of experience with it but my mom gave me a bottle of the peppercorns and I’m curious about trying them.

Saturday morning big breakfast. Pasture raised organic bacon from local farm; it’s maple cured apparently, so the natural sugars caramelized quickly & crisped up nicely in oven  Fried up some leftover baked potatoes with a bit of chopped onion
