Friday Thread #2

So I notice that your Christmas tree is up

Ha! Yes it is. Here in Canada, it’s discouraged to put your tree up before Remembrance Day, as folks feel it dishonours our veterans. Although, my dad was in military his whole life and wasn’t bothered by it… he actually encouraged people to do what they wanted, if it made them happy, as he said he fought for our freedoms. Anyway, I still waited until after Remembrance Day just to be politically correct. I know it’s a tad early (I normally wait until December) but between little guy be sooo excited about putting it up, and being a bit bummed having lost both my parents, I decided to put it up. Christmas is a hard time as I’m away from all my blood relatives, but something magical about the tree & lights to me. We’ve already had our Thanksgiving up here. Sorry about that unsolicited long winded answer :joy:

A piece of my Friday evening. A gentle meander around the neighborhood with my buddy, so calm and pretty out, and lots of honkers flying by.

I guess I never knew how Iowa looked, it reminds me of MA. Nice night…

Query or rather Queries:

Are we allowed to decorate for Crimmus this year? If so, when is decorating permissible? I know Goat’s rule is typically the day after Tksgiving, but with it being so late… Also should Crimmus decorations be demure or are we in the bigger is better realm this year? How many trees are too many?

The soccer team I have season tickets for with my Dad, the local team here, had their first match of the playoff tournament tonight. Win and move on.

Couldn’t have a better ending. I’m giddy. And now I go to bed!

Stupid Covid, I would have been sat right behind the net for that one :rage: Would’ve been absolutely wild in person. Great ending to my Friday nonetheless.

Friday night watching Lilo & Stitch with my wife. Ohana means family. Mine is little and it’s broken. But it’s still good:

Decorate away! I think I’ll start decking my hall any second. Need some cheer…

I don’t do decorations myself, but I know many people with trees etc already up. Some have been up since before Halloween. I think the approach is that this year is so crazy, do whatever brings you joy.

Two times the number of rooms in your place, minus one for each bathroom.

That might be a bit too many. Lol

Also, turns out most of the good trees haven’t made it north yet. So tree after Thanksgiving it is.

Happy Friday friends!

We’ve just had lockdown restrictions lift here, so restaurants are open again and we are going for a curry tonight.

Also, to add some festive spirit, I prepped my mincemeat yesterday and put it in the oven today so the house smells a bit Christmassy :christmas_tree:

Rough day here. I think pandemic fatigue, stir crazy children, and realizations about the holidays are hitting hard. Really hard.

But I’m sober - and the rest of it will pass.

It’s Friday, y’all. Sheets are changed. Tree is up. Floor is mopped.

I hope you find some kind of happiness in today, even if it looks bleak. Perhaps I need to go do a gratitude list…

I may have missed out the part about me collapsing on the kitchen floor in tears last night while preparing the mincemeat… :see_no_evil: I am also struggling with pandemic fatigue and holiday realisations.

But like you say, it will pass. I am reminding myself that it is ok to feel sad about these things, but we will get through it because we always do. In the grand scheme of things this is a tiny blip, and even in the bleak times there are little bits of light that shine through :sparkles:

Chiming in on the pandemic fatigue bit! Felt rotten this morning, sick dog not doing well, poor buddy. Got a surprise call from my dad which was really nice and got me out of my head. Enjoyed some sunshine - it really is hard for me to get in the holiday spirit this year. The weather feels like early Autumn! I’m not complaining, though. Will muster up the energy and start decorating tonight. I know once the process is started I will feel more cheerful about it. My husband formerly known as the grinch says we should go all out decorating, so I’m sure his enthusiasm will pull me along.

Home from our meal out, totally stuffed. Nice to get out but because of the lockdown rules, the restaurant turned into a bit of a bar as the evening went on. So it was rowdier than usual! I can smile at people having their good time while it lasts and still know that I am grateful that I am not stuck in that cycle anymore.

Now watching Coming to America although I don’t know if I will make it through to the end!

One of my all time favorite movies. So good! I hope they don’t ruin it by making a sequel decades later - it’s coming out next year.

My Friday night has turned into watching tv in bed with tea and my dogs sleeping peacefully next to me. Fingers crossed for continued peace and calm. Decorating can wait. I need to dust and vacuum first tomorrow anyway!

@DowntroddenGoat see you in the office tomorrow? I’ve logged 23 hours in the last 2 days. I’m ready to go.

It was a loooong work week, but I’m off!

Got a carne asada burrito and I’m admiring my new Hoka trail runners that just showed up. Excited to take them on their maiden voyage tomorrow.

Oh. It’s Friday, huh? :grimacing:
This weekend we are putting together a greenhouse my husband surprised me with, and going crab fishing. I’ve also got some clients through the weekend that I will be visiting with. :smile_cat: :smiley_cat: :cat:
