Friday Thread #3

It’s Friday night and I’m about to binge season 1 of The Good Doctor, I’ve really gotten into it over the first 8 episodes. The lounge is cosy and warm, the sofa is so comfy it almost eats me like a venus fly trap consumes a house fly, and my belly is full of home cooked roast chicken and oven chips.

Rock and Roll! :sign_of_the_horns::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Happy Friday everyone!!
It’s very cold in North Florida right now so probably going to have a chill evening home and work on some projects and hobbies plus I’m still recovering from a chest cold. The weather website called it a polar vortex!! Sounds like a good metal band name!! Or an energy drink brand… I feel like they are just making stuff up like when they have the feels like temperature next to the regular temperature..

I only have a 4 hour shift tomorrow at the hardware store but I’m well into overtime hours so its worth it.. I’m very excited to have some daylight tomorrow and Sunday and will most definitely go to the beach, skatepark and at least 1 meeting.. preferably a morning meeting

Today I had the devil getting in my head for lack of better words and I was thinking I’m really never going to be free of this anxiety and mental health struggles but I realized that sometimes I confuse regular life emotions and happenings with mental health issues.. I’m still learning how to live and be a part of society even at almost 2 years sober!

I will be kind to myself tonight and realize I don’t have to figure out the next steps for my life tonight! I don’t have to solve the world’s problems tonight or figure it all out and I must find gratitude in the small things.

I’m free and I’m safe
I’m living

TGIF !!

Happy friday folks. 4 more hours of work until a 4 day weekend. I have good plans for this weekend and I’ll be doing all of them sober.

Same Trevor. I think its a part of our healing.

One day at a time my friend. Good for you for checking in and processing those thoughts and not trying to avoid the discomfort. The quickest way is through. I guess you arent camping this weekend  im greatful you arent on the streets and in addiction like before.

Thanks for reaching out because I didn’t even think about it but that’s exactly it .. I’m facing my problems and anxieties instead of masking things or hiding away.

Definitely not camping. I probably would be if it was warmer but it will be very soon. It doesn’t stay cold for long in Florida. I really been enjoying the stars at night and all the animals I hear.. I guess in the downtown area the city lights make it to where you can’t even see the stars and weirdly I never even really thought about them or looked at them till I moved out here.

I’m very grateful to not be homeless even though honestly for the rest of my life I will occasionally miss that part of my life. I don’t expect people to understand and that’s ok if they don’t. Since I was a little kid I always had a love affair or obsession with alternate ways of living and like going off the gird or a more simple way of living. I remember being fascinated with homeless people and even at a young age wanted to live like that. Maybe even very young I just knew that’s what would happen..I thought it would take away my anxiety I guess..

Truthfully I can still explore other ways to live like without traditional housing but I just except that I must maintain employment mainly for my mental health and having a routine and I obviously must stay sober. And I’m not taking about like sleeping behind a Walmart lol..

And also now when I think about being homeless or like city camping and all my crazy adventures I try to think about the reality of being out there like struggling to find bathroom, issues with staying clean and washing clothes, police interactions, and most importantly its very dangerous. If I put all the different months together that I literally sleep on the streets it would probably be at least 2 years. I have actually thought about this a lot or tried to understand why I always keep going back to homelessness and I realize mostly its because of being overwhelmed with responsibility and wanting a more simple life .. A more simple schedule.. its nights like this I’m very happy I’m not out there though.. for so many reasons. I actually remember the time period where I broke into that bar and that was in winter. I was sleeping on the patio area of this sushi restaurant on and off for like a year. I remember literally freezing every night and every night I promised myself I would get blankets, a sleeping bag and proper clothes but everyday it was like autopilot to get only drugs and alcohol. Even my most important life needs were thrown to the side and forgotten about. That’s what alcohol and drugs did to me. The drugs and alcohol told me what to do. They become the only things that matters and I’m beyond grateful I’m not thinking or living like I was 2 years ago!

@Cjp thanks again for reaching out and being supportive.

First time after a long while, I am going to go ice skating this Saturday morning. This will be really interesting.

The Saturday evening brings some nice outdoor and indoor light shows in a city nearby.

Have an amazing Weekend, friends!

Happy sober friday folks!

My friday was exhausting. All day firewood. Emptying the first container, push over the next container with the farm loader, bringing 4 loads to the staircase and dump it down the stairs, stack the firewood into the furnace room. I swear I will relocate all the fucking firewood my ex piled up around the farm in one place next to where it is used :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

It’s ironic that today is my 1 year soberversary from codependent behaviour and I spent it with work that genuinely was his and never was meant for me.
Well, things change and surprise, surprise, I can do it. It’s enervating, hard work I don’t like but I like my home cozy warm so there we go. No tea without water. No warm house without firewood.

The weekend is dedicated to relaxing. And cleaning. My house is dirty :see_no_evil_monkey:
Stay sober :sunflower:

My Friday has been a peaceful day. We have an ice storm coming, so who knows how long we will be stuck at home. We live up very twisty turny, drop off, shady roads…so we need prolonged warm weather to unfreeze the roads. Last time, it was a week before we got out. Portable generator is good to go, lots of gas on hand, plenty of non perishables, downloaded some books and movies…plus have a room full of books. Tons of water in the pool, tho not potable…husband debating emptying it and creating a little skating rink…we shall see.

Made a big bunch of scrambled eggs with cheese to have on hand, easy comfort food. Have a lasagna, another casserole and lots of sweets, cuz my sweet tooth loves a feeding (love / hate with that, but being gentle with myself). It is sunny and in mid 50s F, took a tiny walk looking at gardens, pondering if I will cover anything …likely not as freezing rain would weigh them down. What will be, will be.

Checked in on my folks again and they are as prepared as they can be (no gennie there). Same for daughter and grandson (they have a whole house gen, which she says is working, I hope so). Husband picked up some puzzles from my Dad.

I see Alex Honnold is free climbing some skyscraper in Taiwan live tomorrow on Netflix, so I signed back up. Never free climbed, but spent a few years roped in and always loved watching friends free climb.

Thinking, once again, how much easier life would be if we lived in town, but that is for another day and time when I don’t have quite so much to handle.

Oh, I did put a deposit on our favorite Caribbean hotel room for December…something to look forward to. Hoping I can manage a spring trip as well…but that is very uncertain. Happy to have December locked in.

Basically just chilling (haha) and chatting with friends off and on as well. Going to finish up laundry of favorite clothes and take a long warm soak in the tub with my latest novel. May we all be well and safe. :people_hugging::heart::victory_hand:

Congratulations on your year and your wood moving. We heated with wood growing up and also in many of my homes over the years. I think this is my 1st house without an inside wood burning source (we even had 2 wood fireplaces in Florida). We have gas fireplace here. Wood is good exercise. :+1:
