Just listened to it. Again
My wife is laughing too.
We have a special place in our heart for ā€œpetty legsā€
Thatā€™s what my little baby girl use to call Tom Petty.. It was the first concert we took our children too. And I mean children 8 and 10 maybe. I think some people didnā€™t think it was appropriate of us doing that. What with their first smell of pot and lots of booze. We did not partake of course. We just thought it was great music. And that they should be exposed to it.
And besides they loved Petty Legs.:heart::heart:

Have you ever seen the thread I started a really long time ago.

We might have to put it on there. :joy:

Thereā€™s definitely worse songs to have as an ear worm.

I think itā€™s awesome that you took them to a show so young. I took mine, tooā€¦ only to outdoor shows, so I could keep them away from the crazies. :upside_down_face: But it was great for them that I shared my love of musicā€¦ and today, they are all music connoisseurs. I love it! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I have not seen that thread, yet. Sounds fun! Iā€™ll check it out.

From Dylanā€™s pen to The Bandā€™s ā€œMusic from Big Pinkā€ to the incredible voice of Grace Potterā€¦ this song has been beautifully done by so many.

It is sad, I had never heard this version. Only the Jose Gonzales one. Iā€™m feeling happy, I do have a proclivity to sad songs for some reason

Me, too. This oneā€™s beautiful, but hauntingly sad. Iā€™m glad youā€™re happy. :sparkling_heart:

Great rendition of this Edith Piaf song.

On my street

I live in the corner of the old Montmartre,
My father comes home drunk every night,
And in order to feed the all four of us,
My poor mother works at the laundry.
Whenever Iā€™m sick, I lean next my window,
Watching the people passing by to who knows where
And when the day is about to fade away,
There are some strange things that scare me a bit.

On my street, there are people strolling around,
I can hear them whisper in the night
Whenever I fall asleep, lulled by some tune,
All of the sudden Iā€™m awakened by screams,
Whistles, and lurking footsteps,
Which come and go

Then thereā€™s a silence that makes my heart freeze all at once.
On my street, there are shadows, walking around
And I tremble, and Iā€™m cold, and Iā€™m afraid.
One day my father told me: ā€œMy daughter,
You will not stay here forever
Youā€™re good for nothing in this family,
So youā€™d better earn your bread.
Men seem to find you quite attractive,
All you have to do is leave at night
There are a lot of women who earn their living
By walking the sidewalks.ā€

On my street, there are women strolling around,
I hear them singing and at night,
Whenever I fall asleep, lulled by some old song,
All of the sudden Iā€™m awakened by screams,
Whistles, and lurking footsteps,
Which come and go
Then thereā€™s a silence that makes my heart freeze all at once.

On my street, there are women walking around,
And I tremble, and Iā€™m cold, and Iā€™m afraid.
And for weeks and weeks now,
I havenā€™t got a home anymore, I have no money

I donā€™t know how other girls do it,
But I couldnā€™t find any customer.
I begged for charity,
For a piece of bread, a little warmth,
Iā€™m not much of a bold/audacious girl
But now Iā€™m the one who scare them.
On my street, every night, I walk around
You can hear me sobbing there, and at night,
When the wind blows its old song into the dark sky,
My body gets completely chilled by the rain,
I canā€™t take it anymore, I wait
God to come and take me, hoping
That he will invite me to warm myself right next to Him.

On my street there are angles who guide me
My nightmare is all over now, forever!

Thanks for posting the lyrics, @Mno ā€¦ chilling in a bad wayā€¦ a tragedyā€¦ reminding me of Victor Hugoā€™s ā€œLes Miserablesā€ and a quote straight from wiki by Upton Sinclair.,

" So long as there shall exist, by reason of law and custom, a social condemnation, which, in the face of civilization, artificially creates hells on earth, and complicates a destiny that is divine with human fatality; so long as the three problems of the ageā€”the degradation of man by poverty, the ruin of women by starvation, and the dwarfing of childhood by physical and spiritual nightā€”are not solved; so long as, in certain regions, social asphyxia shall be possible; in other words, and from a yet more extended point of view, so long as ignorance and misery remain on earth, books like this cannot be useless."

February 9th is/was Carole Kingā€™s Birthdayā€¦ Posting a song of hers in tribute to her, I like that this is a recording from 2019, it gives me chills, too, and wishing that the girl in ā€œOn my Streetā€ had had a friend ā€¦
Edit: She did have a friend, he came and put her on a street with angels and took her nightmares away.
Thanks to all who help others with their nightmares.
