Update on the gratitude dry stone wall from last year. i completely forgot about it this year, thank you for asking @Alisa !!!
what was not killed by summer 2024 was killed by winter 24/25
too dry, too wet, too little soil as the heavy rain flushed out most of the soil i put into the planting spots.
so all the gratitude was taken by the weather and is now feeding the grass, the worms and all happy soil-living creatures
I planted succulents on the crown of the wall, they are doing fine but I have to take pictures, they grew from last year to now!
the herbs i tried to plant on the crown also didn’t make it through summer.
i’ll be back with pictures in the next days
One last surprise cauliflower for the season. This plant was behind all the others and I thought for sure it wasn’t going to do anything. Well surprise it gave me my biggest one of the year!! For scale I put it next to my 20 oz coffee mug. Seems fitting it will be used for Thanksgiving dinner tonight
The shorter daylight hours are no good whatsoever for my gardening needs, and neither is bloody chickweed! Has anyone else been plagued by it this year?
Only having a Sunday off is frustrating when you want to work in your garden.
Not going to let it bother me too much I’ll just need to do a couple of hours on a night.
Thats why head torches were invented.
We never actually get caught up, there is always something that needs to be done.
Beats drinking thats for sure.
No chick weed in my garden i feed regular and use a weed spot spray now and again some times boiling water works . has for busy just planted Garlic and sweet peas for next year took more cuttings from my Coleus plants trying the water way in a clear glass already have roots on a couple . my son leaves the Avocado nuts for me and ive got a few in water see if the root also my apple pips doing great got half a dozen now about 6 inches high also my lemons seeds coming on just repotted my Dragon tree cutting was getting to big for the pot ,still got a couple of plum seeds in fridge hopefully they will shoot before we go on our next trip happy days
The growing season has started. I’ve got my chilies sown. Basket of Fire, a lovely-looking plant, easy to manage, more than hot enough for me, and they make nice little gifts.
I’ve been laid up sick for a few days. I still managed to go to work, but my Mrs. wouldn’t let me do anything other than rest at home. I took the opportunity to get my seed order in.
@Ray_M_C_Laren Is that any type of apples and lemons your growing? I’ll give it a go and see what happens. Had some great potatoes this year from old shop bought ones that had sprouted .
Yea no particular type , apple pips i soak them for a couple hrs then peal of outer skin wrap them in moist tissue paper and put them in a zip bag put in fridge stratification for a couple of weeks check regular they will be ready for planting up when roots are showing . Lemons soak for 24 hrs they two can have the outer shell removed put in moist tissue paper put in zip bag and place in warm dark place i put mine in a drawer same as apples check regular see if roots appear then plant on in seeding compost . ( note when putting in water if the seeds float then thy arnt suitable ) i also use grow led lights and heat mat but dont need to use these a light window sile will do
Sweet peas
Garlic too claggy today so never made it up to the allotment. Ive managed to do plenty planning and talking about gardening with my dad.
Bought some lemons this week so will get those up and running .
I need to repot my aloe vera, peace lilly and yucca plants. Amazing how not drinking allows you to care for house plants then they suddenly thrive.
Hubby on me to get transplanted. He is so right. Since sober I have achieved so much life in this space. I love all the lovely green, new leaves, pretty roots and seeing the seeds burst to produce more life. Gardening and plants along with all what Mother Nature offers is a fantastic view of life without alcohol.
Garlic
Aloe vera re-potted
Peace lilly re-potted
Yucca this weekend.
At long last the garlic is planted, the first crop Ive ever sown in this allotment.
Chilli seedlings are coming on a treat.
sweet peas starting to show. All houseplants thriving. The allotment? Well, I won’t know until tomorrow. I can’t really do a lot up there anyway, even if I did have the time. I’ll be sowing onion and leek seeds on Boxing Day. Green fingers, everyone.
