Gardening In Recovery

Thank you @TMAC & @RosaCanDo

I tried the soapy water last and nothing happened. So I’ll look into milky spore or neem oil… thanks for the tips, fingers crossed it works

Does anyone have any experience of companion planting vegetables? Particularly things that cope well with milder/ wetter climates (i.e. North of England).

I have vast experience from my VT gardening days. Milky spore does work, you do need to apply in spring, again in fall and it does take time to get into the soil and do its work. I also suggest hand picking the beetles into a soapy jar of water. Be aware they catch on fast and you will want to hold the jar below them, because they will drop when they see you coming.

As Rosa mentions I also had good luck with beneficial nematodes, you can get them online.

Whatever you do, do not put up the lures…cuz…they lure them!!!

Good luck!

My very first pineapple!!! Have 5 plants all started from cut tops. They take about 3 years to fruit here. Excited! But of course we are moving shortly, so I won’t get to enjoy the fruit lol.

The potted thyme plant I decided to plant in the ground last fall survived the winter! I’ll take a picture tomorrow. So excited for growing season!

It wasn’t going to survive the winter inside after being potted outside I was pretty sure, so rather than compost it I thought I’d give it a go! Really happy it worked out.

Gardening leg selfies: the plants you see there are my Kordana roses (the bush) and Canadian Explorer climbing roses (beautiful low-maintenance plants - they thrive in the full sun we’re giving them). No flowers yet but we should see some soon.

In honor of my anniversary and my renewed commitment to sobriety and recovery, Eric and I bought plants to start our garden and beautify things, too. Ignore all the weeding I need to do out front, please.
