Gardening In Recovery

I love gardening! I love it so much I’m a learning/wannabe herbalist. I’m OBSESSED! Companion planting, symbols and meaning of the plants/flowers. Flower essences. They can even help people heal!

Our garden is huge. This is just a part of it. It’s a LOT of work. But it’s also therapeutical.

Who’s got Swiss chard, tomatoes, spinach, and a teensy bit of sweet basil?

We do!

I came home after two weeks to some serious growth in my garden! I’m super grateful to my husband for caring for it and he got a quick lesson in pruning tonight. He has said he wanted to be more engaged in the garden this year so I’m trying to include him.

Tomatillo plants are huge! We put cages on them tonight.

Hot pepper plants are looking very happy!

Mint and dill and others also happy.

Caught a flower from the pumpkin plant before it wilted. I don’t think there’s any pumpkins growing yet, it doesn’t look like it on the old flower stems but who knows?

Not quite what I had hoped for from my lemon tree after 2.5 years!! It’s going into the ground this afternoon instead of the big pot it is in. I am done nurturing it! I hope the Condo doesn’t mind I am planting without asking permission. I’ll be sure to plant it someplace inconspicuous.

My garden has been slow going in this year. We can’t trust our average frost free date because we have in the past had frost the first week in June so we waited to transfer things outside and have been doing a major overhaul of the structure in the garden.

Last year the t-posts holding up the fence were leaning and the weight of climbing plants was making the fence sag. So I dug in posts and we built the wood surround with raised beds. My aunt shares the plot with me and she always ends up over planting so we could barely walk around to trim and harvest. Hopefully the new structure will help with that. So excited to get everything in the ground!

There’s also so much chamomile and sunflowers that self seeded last year! I have never had chamomile flowering already in June in the past. I’ve been transplanting a lot of it and have also harvested a good handful already. My favorite for tea with lavender!

Very happy with our little strawberry field. Started with 5 plants a couple of years ago and they multiplied really nicely and carry lots of berries every year, even though I don’t put much work into it. Now the first ones start to turn red and we can’t wait to eat them. Because they taste soo much better than all other strawberries

Well I’m on herbal academy student community. I told someone who asked my advice on chamomile, I said there and last night, sometimes just gotta find your plant that’s right for you. And apparently Roses are yours! Do you use your roses to make tea? And do you use your rose hips? That has the most vitamin c in it

Awesome! On my list to plant. We have wild black raspberry bushes but I’d love a strawberry bush :strawberry: My little guy loves to pick berries :yum:
