Getting started with recovery

Hello! I’m new to this app so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. I’d love to be part of weekly meetings if that’s a thing. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to this great community, Derek. Have a good read around and get to know us a little. The Daily Check in thread might be a good start. There is threads on all kinds of topics. Join the conversation whenever you feel ready. Glad you found your way here.

Welcome! You mean meetings in general or on here? There are plenty of sober program meetings, like AA, Recovery Dharma, SMART. If you Google you can find them, and don’t feel shy about going, everyone there is in the same situation as you.

Resources for our recovery

These threads are active so a good place to ‘meet’ people, but can be fast moving so takes time to establish yourself.

Checking in daily to maintain focus #77

Daily Gratitude, The Air Of Recovery #9

Sober Selfies #20 (NO swimwear, shirts required, please review rules)

As for tips and tricks, there are none, just a real desire to quit, and the strength to make changes to your daily life. Some things that helped in the beginning were really planning my time to not allow ‘empty time’, doing daily recovery activities, and treating myself monthly with the money I saved from not drinking.

@Trippderek24 Hi Derek and welcome to the greatest recovery app in existence

As @Pandita mentioned this app is full different topics dealing with all types of addiction. The daily check in is a good place to start :+1:
The other thread to have a look at is:

As far as I’m aware we don’t do weekly meetings, but there’re links to online meetings in the above thread.

So, just dive in and read everything
Try searching for something using the magnifying glass :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: at the top of the screen.

I’m extremely glad you’ve found us, we’re all here to battle our own demons and help others battle theirs.

Stay strong, stay sober and remember that Sobriety is to be enjoyed not endured

Hi @Trippderek24, welcome! I’ll second heading over to the check-in thread when you’re ready- that’s a quick way to keep in touch with some lovely people. Recovery meetings do come in lots of different flavors depending what you feel most comfortable with, and many are available either virtually or in-person. Let us know if you decide to check one out!
