Headaches common?

So when I stopped I figured a benefit would be no morning headaches. Today is 10 days for me (yay) and still experiencing them.

Just wondering if this is common or happened to others? If so, for how long? I also chew nicotine gum, so it could be that…

Thank you!!

Hey there Adam. It is very common to experience headaches in the first 1-2 weeks after stopping the alcohol. It is a common withdrawal side effect of most drugs. To help relieve the severity take regular paracetamol or acetaminophen (as it is known in the US) and drink plenty of water. Big drinkers also become deficient in Vit B 1 which is thiamine. A deficiency of B1 can cause headaches. Taking a supplement of B Vitamins is very important in your recovery. I am a nurse and a recoverying alcoholic so have some first hand experience

They are the worse, but yes very common. I once kept getting checked for migraines. Even had a CT scan. I never did tell my doctor I was a heavy drinker. I sobered up a little over 6 months and never had a headache within that time. Then I started drinking again and guess what….they came back. I’m on 15 days now and I’m having a lot of symptoms and headaches is one of them. Just hang in there! Trust the process because it’s worth it.

I’m on day 7 and I’ve been waking up with headaches every day. Today has been far the worst as nothing is helping the pain. It’s really making me irritable and down. I’m hoping they start to getter over the next few days.
