Hip Hop Artists who are Sober!

Hip-hop and music in general is always a huge source of inspiration for people going through life, good or bad… From A Tribe Called Quest, to Brand Nubian, Erykah Badu, Nas, and Outkast, hip hop opened up a gateway of positivity for me to express myself. :musical_note: :microphone: :headphones:
Now that I’m sober I’ve been interested in what celebrities are sober/sustain a more healthy lifestyle. Interestingly enough, Kendrick Lamar is clean! Recently, Kid Cudi checked himself into rehab for depression and wrote a statement expressing his need to focus on recovery. It’s nice to see people in the spotlight who are able to bring light to the subject.
Hopefully this will inspire some of you

Cheers,
Olivia

Same w Jason Isbell. Huge inspiration for me.

That’s awesome to hear. I’m not big into country music, a lot of the stuff I hear on the air usually involves drinking and driving which makes me change it really quick! It’s good to see artist’s who write about their struggles with addiction though, especially alcohol which is so common!

One of my favorites by Kendrick, it tells of the influence of peer pressure, internal dialogue, and his family history of abuse with alcohol.

Here is Slow Down by Brand Nubian, an anti-crack song which was released in 1989. These guys were pure black power!

Schoolboy Q with Prescription/Oxymoron. He sold oxy before he got famous and fell into an addiction, this song features his daughters voice and is hard to listen to but makes a powerful anti-drug anthem. He has since gotten sober.

Wow, I’m listening right now and these lyrics are powerful! A lot of emotion, I had to look up the lyrics.
"Come tomorrow, I can walk in any store
It ain’t a problem, they’ll always sell me more
But your forgiveness
Well, that’s something I can’t buy"
So, so, so true!

Jason Isbell is much the same. He was w Drive By Truckers from Athens and had huge problems w alcohol and cocaine. He got straight in 2012. He has been a guy that touches a lot of things I’ve felt and struggled with.
This was a song he wrote for Truckers that he still does. My fave by him.

Colicchie is a constant inspiration to me and someone I think everyone in NA should take a listen to. His story is so inspiring.
