How do you guys feel about non-alcoholic beer?

I found a craft non-alcoholic IPA tonight. I personally enjoy the taste of beer and miss it. Does anyone enjoy an NA beer here and there?

No. I’m afraid after a couple of non alcoholic beers My addictive brain would be like GIVE ME WHAT I WANT!! I basically afraid to try it. My son likes them. He’s recovering. He doesn’t have a problem with them.

It is a topic with various opinions indeed. For me personally it is no problem. It does not kindle my need for alcohol. but first year in recovery I did not dare doing it. Very personal I guess. Stay close and honest to yourself and you will know.

That haven’t been a trigger for me. But I did discover that I don’t actually like beer at all. Can’t stand the bitter taste, and only wanted the buzz. But I do occasionally drink Nosecco, champagne was my thing and the Nosecco tastes just like the real thing. It might work for some and for others non alcohol beverages like that might be triggering. I mainly drink sweet tea or sodas, and there’s no universal solution on how to handle it, because it’s different to everyone.

I got in to the heineken 0.0s for a while on house arrest, but I lost interest after a while.

I don’t, whether they would trigger me or not I don’t care to find out.
I don’t consider it worth putting my sobriety to the test.
YMMV

A friend brought over a bottle of non-alcoholic bubbly the other day . It was fun to pour it in a champagne flutes and have a couple of glasses, but without the effect of alcohol it was kinda meh for me.
I do recommend looking into the type of beer you are drinking, because “NA” beers are allowed to have up to .5% alcohol. If that matters to you. Some people believe that’s physically triggering, some people don’t. I drink kombucha, which is the same in terms of alcohol content (and eat miso, and sourdough bread, and other fermented foods). I’m fine with it. But I know some people who won’t use Crest toothpaste because it’s made with alcohol :woman_shrugging:t3:
If you enjoy it and it’s not triggering, it’s all good. If it makes you want to drink regular beer, it’s all bad :upside_down_face:

I’ve had loads of different zero percent alcohol beers and IPAs before I went sober, back when I tried moderation and cutting down I had it to temper the urges. They’ve actually come a long way now and some taste ok but I’m staying away from them at the mo for sobriety as I dont want to be tempted back into it.

I think eventually once I feel confident i have a hold of my addiction I may venture back onto them but right now I dont want to drink anything that may trigger me so I’m sticking to other beverages.

Not working for me. I tried for two days and went back to normal ones.

Yeah that’s why I’m just staying away. I dont have the urge right now so why tempt myself with imitation alcohol.

Sucks :-1::-1::-1::-1:

I like them. But you need to really mindful about whether it’s triggering. For me, it’s nice to have a special drink while I make dinner. I have just one non alcoholic beer, and it’s enough; doesn’t make me want to go buy a six pack, at least not for now. But I keep watch on my impulses around it.

My special drink is elderflower flavored tonic water.
Just saying.
Unfortunately it’s hard to come buy ready mixed so I mix it myself.
I’ve experimented in the last 21 months with various soft sparkling drinks from Ginger Beer and Blackcurrant and lemonade. (Sprite/7up)
It might be worth having a look.

My experience with NA beers was while I was still drinking, and trying to moderate. The experiment resulted in failure, as all they did was make me want the real thing.

There’s a term precision shooters use, D.O.P.E, which stands for Data On Previous Engagements. “DOPE” is the settings a shooter puts on the rifle sights based on previous attempts to hit a target at a known distance, based on weather, wind, temperature and other environmental and personal factors, and if applied correctly, results are predictable.

DOPE with NA drinks make me want the real thing. Therefore, I will not challenge my sobriety, when I don’t have to. But, I am me and you are you. Your mileage may vary.

No interest. I think I had an NA beer a long time ago and it tasted awful. If I miss beer, or the feel the need to act like I’m still drinking, then I have not done enough in my recovery. For me drinking NA beer in hopes of capturing that old feeling of being part of the gang or whatever just shows I am not over my drinking. And for me, I am over drinking. I don’t need to fit in at the bar. I drink seltzer water if I need bubbles. I don’t need to pour bubbly drinks in to fancy glasses. I did all of that shit. For years. Now drinking, and drinking culture, have no place in my life.

Is that not a huge warning sign? Do you sit down and drink 7 Pepsi’s?
