Hello, I just started my alcohol free journey first day with no alcohol is September 23rd 2025. Downloaded this app to have something to help keep track, and this is my first time to find people who are also here for the same purposes. I’m going through this alone, I don’t have friends or people to talk to, I live alone , go to work and come home. I’m 29 been addicted to alcohol since 2015, it’s to the point that drinking has gotten worse I use it to cope with my depression , anexity, loneliness. I go to bars alone since the bar is a comfortable place to walk in alone and find a seat by myself and have several beers. I only drink beers since it’s easy to sit and drink for a long time on vs having shots of liquor and getting drunk in an hour. I’m mainly seeking for help so I can find healthy things to do to distract me from getting more alcohol, to find motivation to not feel so lonely , depressed. If someone has a healthy non toxic group community to help make like minded friends for the first time.
Welcome to the community!
This place saved me! I was alone in my journey, until I found my tribe here. Stick around, be active; read, reply and you will see results.
Regarding the past: it is what it is, we don’t have to let the past define us, we can learn from it and move forward. I know it’s not as easy as it sounds, just take it one day at a time, you will get there.
Welcome Megan!! Glad u found us!!
In the beginning of my recovery, i spent ALOT of time on here as well as online AA and NA meetings thru the free Intherooms app. In person meetings are great as well, I just wasnt able to get to them, so online were a better option for me. But if u want to fend off that lonliness, i would suggest in person meetings. Often times people will go for coffee afterwards or just socialize after the meeting. Its a great way to not feel so alone!
I also began exercising and began discovering new hobbies, things to keep me busy. I honestly didnt know what i liked or didnt like being clean and sober, so the beginning of my recovery was spent learning “me” ![]()
Whatever u do tho, dont pick up. No matter what. Nothing is solved by drinking. In fact the problem gets worse when we take substances. Stick close to the forum, check in often, and let us help u thru it ![]()
@Butterflymoonwoman beat me to it
do that
Thank you so much! What are the online AA apps do you use for online meetings? I have a bit of social anexity to go to in person meetings. It’s also been a struggle to have that motivation to find new hobbies and find activities to do, I work two jobs so my life has been so overwhelmed by that to find the time and the energy to focus on “me” .
If you’re here, you’re not alone. For me, week one was about staying busy - stuff around the house I’d been meaning to do or get to for awhile, purging, etc. - other personal stuff too - have had to renew a passport and get a real ID for months, but booze = procrastination. Now they’re both on their way and I’ll be able to travel again. Keep busy and attention elsewhere - for me that was and continues to be huge. Eighteen days w/o a beer today for me. Keep going!
I can relate so hard drinking to mask lonliness depression and anxiety. Its awesome youve finished day 1. I found it gets easier after the 1st week but i had to read and share on here daily and find community with alcoholics anonymous. Its amazing what sitting in a room and realizing you arent the only one struggling/abstaining/and growing thru the addiction does for ones spirits.
I kept busy that first week: lots of walks, sparkling water, hot tea, aa meetings
The online app is called Intherooms. Im sure there are other apps but thats where I go at least. U juat have to make an account to sign up. It is free tho. Then u can choose from a variety of meetings. They have them at diff times too ![]()
Wow u must be super busy with 2 jobs. Hopefully going to online meetings will work better with ur schedule
Welcome to the community Megan
A huge congrats on your sober journey! Change up your routine so that you are doing different things and your mind can re-wire and not associate tasks with drinking. Keep yourself busy - make a plan and surround yourself with support. I love this community / forum. It has been a wonderful life savor for me.
Gives me distractions with the “just for fun” threads, Loads of great threads to connect with others on to stay accountable and ahead of my addiction. Amazing advice on here to and a way to not feel lost as we can connect with others who are on the same journey!
The gratitude thread is also a game changer as it helps change your mindset.
