I had an ultrasound scan today

Hi Kelly.

Just a few things you can control:

Drink lots of water, flat not fizzy
Hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice in every morning.
No carbonated drinks, Coke is the worst offender. Something in it draws calcium from the bones into the kidneys if drank excessively.

The rest, trust the science folk.

Hope you recover quickly.

I get stones. My mum had them too but I don’t get the pain she had it seems. I had a 25mm one (more of a boulder than stone lol) removed via surgery last year (too big to do laser surgery). It all went well

Imagine trying to piss out an 8cm. You’d have to have the flow rate of a fire engine

Im already stressed to death about the 8mm nevermind 8cm - you did lighten the mood for me though , i had realised Jens mistake but i knew what she meant

It is stressful but try not to worry cause it won’t help you!

Are there foods and drinks you can avoid or consume to help?

And you gotta try to sit back and let the docs work their magic.

It’s good that you know what was causing the symptoms.

Ive heard that should it move and travel then it can be worse than labour pain :flushed:

No, they just monitored. I still have some. At one point before my boulder got to 25mm (which is pretty uncommon by the way!) it was smaller. They just monitored it since it was non-obstructing (not in my ureter; stayed put in kidney) and not causing major issues (but please don’t fear yours will necessarily even grow! Some can dissolve on own too). There was discussion of laser but then ended up having PCNL surgery as it grew larger. I know lots who’ve had laser though (I’m also in healthcare).

Ive read that the laser is painful thats all…honestly before i had my daughter i always thought i was pretty tough and no sissy for pain…i was definitely very wrong lol

I have never heard a woman say that.

My Dad has had lots of them. Some he passes. Some medication assisted to pass. Some they went in and broke up.

I know it is hard to not know. Hopefully you will get a chance to speak to your doctor soon.

Ok…knee jerk reaction and intial freak out over…

Although im worried ive now managed to come up with the positives…

  • Its not life threatening
  • Knowledge is power and at least i know about this now and can get something done about
  • Meds are available for any pain
  • Not once has this made me want to drink
  • I am not who i used to be and can handle things much better these days
