I live in Iran, sth I’ve avoided mentioning many times before. Because the picture people have in mind about Iranians is mostly not right and I don’t have the energy to give them the right picture.
The civilians are not the government. And even the photographies that are shared from Iran (either by government or not), are not mostly objective or right.
Right now, there is kinda a chaos going on here. So I’m saying this to maybe create a space for you to ask your questions if you have any.
I’m an Iranian and I’m proud of that. I don’t support our current government. But we have a rich history and many brilliant individuals even in this situation and the oppression we have experienced by the world and our own government. So here we go
[I neither support nor oppose Iran’s or Israel’s stand in the ongoing conflict, I just wish to say we exist as people]
Ik it’s kinda not the topic which is about the platform main concern but it’s something which is bothering me especially during the last previous days. So I’ll use this platform to voice it and answer any questions with the hope that I can convey the right picture of who we are despite all the previous subjective images that have been shown to the world, portraying us as the government not human beings with identities
A few answers to some questions you might already have in mind: (I’ll add to this list if I remember anything)
[Please consider that I don’t wish to participate in conversations about politics rn🤍]
No, we are not all Muslims. It’s the religion that we receive as a label when we’re born.
We don’t all wear hijab. It’s a rule here which many refuse to obey.
We, as people, are not in conflict with or hold hatred towards anyone. We only wish for peace and friendship.
We are not traditionalists, radicals, or strictly religious. Almost none of our people have problem with others who are different from us (if they are); for example if someone is religious or wears hijab that doesn’t mean they dislike others who do not hold their beliefs. Our culture is hospitable and friendly aside from the government.
I have friends from Iran who live here; they’re going home soon for the summer holidays. I understand everything is very volatile right now, but up until now, is it generally safe for just regular people to get on with their days and their lives?
Much love friend. Be safe. I have family and friends who live in Iran. I lived there till 7 and those years were absolutely some of my greatest memories (grateful that I was not too young ti forget the beauty of the country).
I don’t really wish to enter political topics rn
But there’s one thing. Oppression is beyond just a governance. Peace must be learnt. If people, of anywhere, are not aware enough, peace won’t be offered to them as a gift or at least it won’t last.
I do not, in any way, support our governing system but I love my country and will stand for it if it is needed. I don’t believe that external conflicts are to result in peace either. If there’s a change to come, it must happen through knowledge and awareness of all people. Otherwise, a government or another will not do any good.
I wish that all conflicts end soon, for all people anywhere on this earh.
Thinking about you, your family, your friends, your country’s safety.
Thinking about your sobriety and that you will be able to maintain it under the circumstances. Hopefully so.
I live in the United States and a lot of what you said about your feelings in and about your own country, I feel about me and my own country.
Wishing for safety and peace for all.
