I need help to quit smoking weed

Im having a hard time not thinking about smoking it’s only been 2 days and it’s the only thing on my mind. I’ve smoked for the last 5 years straight only taking a tolerance break once for a month. I’ve tried to quit for the last 2 months and I cant make it past a week without relapsing. I’ve tried occupying my mind with outdoors music building Legos etc. But I can’t seem to completely stop. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Caleb, really glad you’re here! Congratulations on getting 2 days under your belt. You said you’re keeping busy and that’s a perfect short-term plan as your body (slowly, unfortunately) detoxes. When I was having urges at the beginning I’d come here and read–everyone here has at least some idea of what you’re going through, and there’s a lot of great wisdom. Have you checked out What’s YOUR plan?

Check in as often as you need (I love the Checking in daily to maintain focus #86 thread, I’m on there several times a day) and know that you can absolutely do this. Just get through 5 minutes at a time!

Welcome @Coolkid2007 in addiction its normal for the using thoughts to be strong early in your quit. Hold on…it wont be that bad and constant forever.

Great job on 2 days free. Id encourage you to write down your whys for quitting so you can reference it in times of cravings. And please visit here daily to build that support network.

Greetings and welcome to the group. Every one’s path is both unique and familiar. I, personally, don’t use the word relapse, especially when it is still in your system. The worst week isn’t easy for quitting anything - drugs, alcohol, pornography, doom scrolling, TV, over shopping, over eating, under eating…Giving up anything is generally difficult.

When it changes your body and your brain, which all those things do, you do have to do the work. Finding activities to replace it doesn’t always work or sometimes help. Take it from me, I have been “quitting” for over 30 years. It was an accident that “helped” me get to where I am at 938 days.

Communities are a big helper, like posted above, referencing others’ experiences and tools does help.

Glad you’re here.

Welcome @Coolkid2007! Great work on 2 days. I quit weed 11 days ago so we are very close in day count. We can do it!

Wise words @EarnIt. I would add sugar to the list of things that take effort to quit. omg so insidious it’s in almost everything it seems.

Thank you for the reminder @Cjp about never forgetting our WHY!! I need to bring that to the forefront again now that I am quitting weed. It worked so well for me when I quit drinking in 2024. :+1:
