Hey so I just got this app after an other night out that ended kind of badly for me (it happens like once a month).
It happens once a month, I drink and I complete loose control barely capable of remembering what I did, but my friends and my partner do and I’m really ashamed of who I am in those moments. Yesterday was my worst night I think. I got super drunk and got into an argument with some police officer. My friend was yelling to stop but I didn’t care and they took me. They had to call my boyfriend to come pick me up. We got back to my friend and she was so angry and disappointed she tried to hit me (I don’t blame her). I send her a text the next day to sorry she said it was okay but she never wants to be put in this situation again and that I was a horrible person when I drink. I fell so bad because I’m actually trying to better myself but I end up hurting my loves ones every time . My boyfriend has been the sweetest since this happens and I wish I could be a goood dirk friend . I was trying to just drink lesswich work for some time but I think I’m going to stop completely. I just needed to get this of my chest thank you to anyone who read this. It’s going to be ok (also sorry English is not my first language)n
Welcome! Nearly every person who has issues when drinking, never gets past it without quitting completely.
It is a fact that alcohol isn’t good for the body or the brain. For some, it hits way harder and always will.
I hope you take your own advice and quit completely. It only took me 30+ years to convince myself - after a bad time turned into an accident, which completely changed my life.
Hi, welcome. Congrats on taking the first steps. I’ve just joined the community also. My addiction is PMO but I have experience with alcoholism from dealing with my father who was a massive alcoholic. Black outs are very common, and it can be and often is very painful for friends and family to witness. I think you’ve taken a brave step by reaching out to others and from what I’ve seen so far I think you will find lots of help and support here. From what I understand so far, I guess the next big questions to ask is “Do you really want to quit drinking? Do you think that alcohol is ruining your life and the lives of your friends and family?”
Yes they love me and they are still trying to be there for me but they are getting tired so I’m going to stop completely I feel ready but I know as read people post on here that it’s not that easy thank you for your answer
A person who doesn’t have an issue with alcohol, makes a fool of themselves once drunk and never does it again. Those people can enjoy drinking moderately. If it happens once a month, then you cannot moderate and 99.99% never will be able to moderate. I am exactly the same. I pissed off and exhausted and lost a few people before I worked that one out. Happy to hear it sounds like you have worked it out earlier.
My advice for what it is worth is to treat this as severly as if you were drinking daily or having the shakes the next morning. There are great resources here Resources for our recovery
I tried to quit by myself with those kind of ‘quit-lit’ books, and could manage 3 or 4 months before I relapsed. I needed to join a recovery group and really take it seriously: regular meetings, etc. Recovery was the focus of my life for several months / years, until now I can just maintain recovery and focus on other parts of my life.
Omg thank you so much for your advice and honesty. You are right I have an issue and the only way out is to stop drinking thank you for the ressources link. I hope you have a great day
Sounds cliché but admitting the problem is the first step to solving it.
I’ve been tricked so many times over the years thinking that I can control my drinking when in reality my drinking was controlling me.
I’m a pretty rebellious person and don’t let others control me, so my mindset is that drink won’t control me. I find this pretty liberating and powerful when I’m struggling.
