A person who doesn’t have an issue with alcohol, makes a fool of themselves once drunk and never does it again. Those people can enjoy drinking moderately. If it happens once a month, then you cannot moderate and 99.99% never will be able to moderate. I am exactly the same. I pissed off and exhausted and lost a few people before I worked that one out. Happy to hear it sounds like you have worked it out earlier.
My advice for what it is worth is to treat this as severly as if you were drinking daily or having the shakes the next morning. There are great resources here
Resources for our recovery
I tried to quit by myself with those kind of ‘quit-lit’ books, and could manage 3 or 4 months before I relapsed. I needed to join a recovery group and really take it seriously: regular meetings, etc. Recovery was the focus of my life for several months / years, until now I can just maintain recovery and focus on other parts of my life.
