I’ve got a question does anyone recommend working out in recovery

I’m in recovery yes I’ve been silber for 5 years but somedays I don’t really have it in the bag in a way I feel like sometimes I’m going to relapse and on top of that I feel very angry / upset a lot of the time I’m thinking about maybe going somewhere to find a place to work out or even sign up for class to not only exercise learn how to control myself at times with my anger / upset issues im like ok now but I feel like sometimes the slightest thing could honestly throw me off and it’s hard to come down from

and yes I’m planning on having a therapy session at some point soon but at the same time I’d like to learn discipline or whatever you want to call it so not only I feel good on the inside I feel good on the outside as well

I’m not to Shere if that makes any sense but that’s where I’m at at the moment is there any one out there right now working on their selves a long with the out side as well

and is it possible it would help In the long run of my sobriety and mental health I’d honestly love to hear what you guys do

Thanks for listening hope you guys have an amazing day

Working out in what ever form is a wonderful tool in recovery. It’s great for the body, mind and spirit.

I highly recommend doing something to get your heart rate going as it does help release anger and anxiety.

If you can’t get to a gym, then outdoor activities like water sports, hiking, walking it running or outdoor spots are great. YouTube also has many videos that are helpful for whatever you are looking for.

I’ll echo :100: what @JazzyS has said. Whatever form of exercise is good for the mind, body and soul and can be super beneficial in sobriety too. Hitting the gym, for me, helps immensely for sure, it’s a great release.

I love exercise! Idk where Id be without it. I was always into working out, but drugs sort of took that away at one point. Now at 4+ years of recovery, i work out about 5x a week (weight lifting and cardio). I find it sooo therapeutic. Sometimes i actually work out more for my mental health, than I do my physical health.

Any sort of body movement I feel is beneficial for recovery. It increases that feel good hormone

You all are making some good solid points and I’m definitely going to look into it when I can because man oh man I really could use a workout or whatever because of the amount of frustration within me is at one point going to get me in trouble I feel like and that’s something I definitely not wanted to happen

Ive been sober a couple times. This time im coming up on three years. My first time sober I got sober to show everyone I could do it, so I started biking 40 miles, riding my bike to hiking areas and hiking the mountain, then I relapsed. Second time I focused on gym, and a couple other times after that just focused on gym and my looks. This time I got sober I said shit apparently the gym isn’t working, I thought the gym would help my mental health. But it wasn’t, so I started therapy and now I’ve been finally working on my mental health and feel the best I’ve ever felt
