Looks like there is interest in the January plank challenge for 2022! I think this will be year 4 on here! I am in!

Modify as necessary…some tips…

  • Forearms work for some people, for others straight arms feels better. For advanced folks, I suggest up / downs :upside_down_face: (alternating between forearms and straight…down down, up, up, repeat, repeat…)

  • Doing your planks on your knees is a great way to ease in (as opposed to on your toes)

  • Wearing sneakers helps your grip and steadiness

  • As time progresses, reading can take your mind off

  • Engage your core for stability (squeeze your abdomen and tummy muscles)

  • Push up to a down dog if needing a break

We start out slow and build strength as we progress…just like sobriety!! :+1:

It was that way for me too. My philosophy is that daily participation is more important than doing X amount of time. I push myself but if I need to modify my posture or do it in two or three chunks for that day, it’s no problem. (Sassy’s tips above are gold!)

Progress, not perfection :innocent:

Count me in! I’ll start day 1 on January 1st.

Ok. I’m in. I’ll suck at it because of crappy shoulder but maybe it’s okay if I ease into it. :grin:

Is it already January :see_no_evil::sunglasses:

This trainer here has some really great ideas on alternative positions that can achieve the same core benefits without the shoulder pain. Scroll down to the video - it’s a little easier to see what she’s saying with the visual aid:

Thanks. I suspect the issue is related to chest weakness and neck pain for which I have Physio exercises. So we’ll see if they actually help. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ack. I suspect my core won’t allow me to lift the shoulder blades. I can do the legs part for sure, though. I wonder if that alone will help. Currently my go-to core exercise (which I haven’t done in FAR too long) is dead bugs.

Okay, well I can see this is going to be challenging for me this January!! I guess that’s why it is called a challenge? :woman_shrugging:
