This is my first post. I am 3 days sober today. I have been reading a lot on these threads and am very inspired by so many of you. I got a DUI in June and it was a horrible experience. For the most part I have been a functioning alcoholic for 10+ years but have been drinking for 30. I am very glad I found this forum and it is the first thing I do in the morning. I am learning so much. My daughter is going to have a baby in June and said I will have no contact with him if I don’t clean up. I have wanted to do so for so long. I am grateful for so much today and so happy to wake without a hangover. Hope everyone has a great day.
Welcome and congrats on 3 days @Rookie !! So many inspiring threads on here. I’m on day 48 and this place and these people have helped immensely ODAAT!

Welcome to Talking Sober (TS) Kristin! Glad to have you aboard. I hope you take some time to read around as there are some great threads. Here are a few of my favorites (linked below).
Hello Kristen and a warm welcome to you!
As you are a bit like me in my drinking days then your life circled around drinking. We think about it loads: when to drink, how much we drink, where to hide some, where to buy it this time because you do not want the cassier to think weird about you, etc.
It coast loads of time…
And then the time we spend drinking? Even more time. Ore spend sick because of a hangover…
Put all that time that you have put into all that into you recovery instead.
Like reading here, listen to podcasts, reading books about recovery, etc. I learned so much about myself and my addiction, still a growing process
Happy for you that you made the same choice!
Life isn’t easy, it still isn’t but it’s deffinitely better then it used to be.
And for you: becoming a grandparent!
That is an extra motivation!!
Welcome aboard Kristen! You are amongst like minded people with lots of support to share. Congratulations on 3 days of sobriety. Something tells me you’re going to meet and be a role model for your grandchild.
Hey Kristen
This is a late response - but I’m curious how you’re doing? I really hope you’ve made it so far without drinking…you said you were on Day 3, and I think that was 5 days ago? SO …Day 8?
I will tell you the first 4 days are hands down the hardest…if you made it to Day 4, you’re through that hurdle…if you’ve made it to Day 8 you’re well on your way!
You can do this - it isn’t easy, not at all …but you can do it - there is a new life waiting for you on the other side.
All the best, stay on this forum - ask others for advice, your feelings, whatever.
Take care
John
I am doing well. 8 days today and while it is not easy the second week doesn’t seem to drag like the first. The clarity is great as is waking without a hangover and regrets. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for checking in. Kristen
