My 4 year old and I saved a bat from the campground washroom last summer. Got him out safely. There was a bit of squealing on my part but we were pretty proud
Is that by individual number or in biomass?
You are very brave!!!
I don’t remember actual numbers, but I believe humans and livestock are the top biomass numbers as far as mammals are concerned, so I’m guessing number of individual bats.
Speaking of biomass, not mammals but it’s astonishing how much worms make up. I think ants are up there too.
Omg, I would advise you against touching a bat. Hopefully you didn’t. They are some of the most diseased animals in the world. Rabies should be the least of your worries.
I’m taking this from the World Atlas: It is estimated that there are 900 to over 1,200 species of bats in the world , making up one-fifth of Earth’s total mammalian population, the second largest order after rodents. However, these numbers are relative measures as there could be more species of bats in the world .
No, I didn’t touch it. I got my kid to instead. Just kidding. I was very careful and kept myself protected/covered as much as I could to guide it out an open door. Little man technically didn’t help; I made him wait outside. I was scared someone would come and try to kill it or squash it on the wall. Hindsight I should have tracked down the camp warden. I will next time
Didn’t CV15 come from a bat?
Just a rumor. Bats are known carriers of Coronaviruses though.
