I love the album tragic Kingdom by no doubt. I recently discovered that Album because of the song Sunday morning that was on a ska Mix I was listening to lol Also because of prime and Amazon music. I never realized how much I liked that band no doubt. Gwen Stefani is awesome.. Before I recently started listening to no doubt the only time I heard her music or sing is when she did a song with Bradley Noel from sublime and I saw it on YouTube.

Everybody has to have someone to look up to when they’re growing up! I’m not sure who My icon was but if I think about it or remember I’ll let you know!!

Yeah, I listened to that album non stop. Along with the cranberries first two and Semisonics first album. They were my comfort blanket and got me thru a lot.

When I was a naughty (very underage) purveyor of nightclubs, me and my crew always chose smokey grunge or northern soul and ska clubs. Try the ND earlier album that was made in their garage.. Beacon Street something. Very short.

I met Gwen once when her concert was a whole £7 to get in at the Wolverhampton civic. She was a NOBODY and was getting with Gavin Rosedale of Bush. I was 17 and she was a cute crazy ball of energy. My boyfriends dad was a rig/tour manager and Gavin actually got the lads a load of fish and chips in. Awe  I also love Bush. I think they were more popular in the USA than here. We also had cool memories at Beck concerts and the seahorses and Stone Roses.

You definitely have good taste in music and it seems like a wide range of music liking. You’re probably like me if the music has something to say and has substance to it then it matters. There is Impactful and powerful music and then there is the opposite of that. For myself though it also has to do with how I grew up in a very musical family and going through my dad’s record collection and CDs and tapes when I was like five years old. Plus I used to listen to the radio for hours and hours every single night and I didn’t really sleep. I guess I still don’t really sleep that much considering I’m writing this at 4:42 in the morning. Anyway My mom had to come into the room and turn the radio off multiple times at night when I was a kid. Music is probably my first memory. I remember listening to Nirvana, Soundgarden and sublime at a very young age like 6, 7, 8 Years old and being blown away. Anyway I guess this is a movie thread so I don’t want it to get derailed. But then again I don’t think anybody would care because this is a just for fun thread

Ps: I love Beck

Seems pretty good so far I’m only about 20 minutes in. I probably should start posting these movies after I watch. It was hard to pick a movie tonight because there is a lot of different things on prime right now. I’m trying to get back to just watching movies that are available on prime because I’ve been renting a lot of movies recently 3.99 Can add up and it’s easy to just click because it’s connected with my account

no country for old men is on prime. Have you ever seen that movie? That is definitely worth watching for a second time plus I barely remember it From when I saw that years ago.but I know that it’s really good. It says it’s trending so obviously a lot of people like that movie

Had to watch 28 days later (guess it really wasn’t necessary)…found it to be decent (much better than it’s prequel) but beginning clips of flashing scenes gave me sensory issues :joy:. Thanks for the recommendation

Still not a horror imo … but better than original

Was surprised this was one of the free movies on prime. The Bones brigade is a legendary skateboard company and team that was formed in the 1980s. They were revolutionary. There’s a good chance that modern skateboarding as we know it would not exist without this company.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Can’t wait!! Hoping it comes to our little independent movie theater (usually happens right before it starts streaming). Still riding the high of Sinners.

Have you seen the trailers / read reviews for 40 Acres? Looks really good.

Oooh…on my list for this week…glad to hear that it was soo good . Only saw a pic and not looking at the trailer as I don’t want to be surprised

It’s a good one, I really hope you enjoy it! It’s a Very thoughtful and genre bending film, imo. I’ve not seen Sinners yet… Nor the trailer for 47 acres! Who even am I?

Nostalgia and Adventure classic
10/10

I have watched a decent amount of movies in the last month especially. But regardless of my schedule or whether I have free time I probably watch at least five movies a week. I will say that In the last month or so no country for old men is the most impactful movie I’ve seen so far and actually in years. Second to that would be Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe. I highly recommend no country for old men and also Cinderella Man. Both of those movies are 10 out of 10. Watching goonies today was more for the memories and it just seemed like a good idea definitely don’t regret that couple hours. I’m pretty certain the Goonies was directed by Steven Spielberg which kind of makes sense. Out of all the movies I’ve watched in the last month or so the only one that was not good in my opinion was called Capone with Tom Hardy. For myself even if I don’t like a movie I will still finish it till the end so that I can make sure that I don’t like it lol or just because maybe there’s a chance it’ll turn around. Maybe I will go through my prime, Hulu and tubi Account and post a list of all of the movies I’ve watched since getting sober which would definitely take some time to write that list but might be cool. I might have to just sit down with a piece of paper and think about it. And I will put my opinion on whether that movie should be watched or not

One of my friends recommend that I watch the big Lebowski. But I’m not sure about that. It’s cool having so many options for movies but also sometimes it’s hard to pick

Off the top of my head some movies that stand out that I’ve seen in the last couple months..

The revenant
No country for old men
Cinderella Man
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
The Master
The bike riders
5050
Before the Devil knows you’re dead
The pianist
Fight club
Dallas buyers club

Watched half of this yesterday and finishing the rest up right now. This is a really good movie to say the least. I didn’t even know there was a movie about Truman Capote and his process or experience’s for writing in cold blood. I actually read that book maybe 20 years ago and I couldn’t put it down. Psychology of any sort has always been really fascinating to me. Not so much criminal psychology or Psychology of killers or murderers but now that I watched this movie I will definitely reread in cold blood soon. I’m not totally positive on this but I think for Truman Capote to write in cold blood was probably something people were not expecting at all because that is not the type of writing he did before that book. But I’m not totally sure on that. And I think that book paved the way For criminal nonfiction novels. Or it was introduced during a time when that wasn’t normal. 1965?

Edit: Jack Kerouac

Also I saw a trailer recently and a documentary is coming out about Jack Kerouac and is going to be in select theaters by some slim chance if that happens to be in Jacksonville Or anywhere in Florida I will 100% be going no matter what I have to do To make that happen. Or at the very least I will try to order it digitally. I think it’s narrated by Josh Brolin who was one of the lead actors in no country for old men and there’s another couple actors that are in the film talking about Jack Kerouac and his impact. Jack Kerouac was a beat writer that published a decent amount of novels in the late 50s and early 60s I believe. He had a free-flowing type writing and did not do much editing or rewriting when he was writing. His is most popular novel is called on the road. Which basically is about him hitchhiking from New Jersey to California a couple different times and all the crazy experiences he has. The majority of the people in the book have pseudonyms but the majority of the people are real Writers who also ended up becoming successful Like William S Burroughs, Allen Ginsburg, And Neal Cassidy.. Some of Jack Kerouac’s writing could potentially be triggering for somebody early in recovery. It’s hard for me to make my mind up on whether he glorifies alcohol and drug use but I believe he does pretty often talk about the negative craziness that comes along with it. Maybe I’m biased because I like him as an author not sure if biased is the right word. Anyway that should be a pretty cool documentary and hopefully I can find a way to watch it

@Matt Not sure if you ever read any of his novels and the link for the trailer was on Google but I don’t remember what website I saw it specifically and I couldn’t find it on YouTube. Seems interesting

No Country For Old Men is an amazing movie. I need to watch it again. Daniel Day Lewis can do no wrong for me!

Same for Philip Seymour Hoffman, he was such a gifted actor. May he rest in peace. Another one of us who lost the battle. Capote is a great movie, as are most he was in.

I absolutely loved (and cried a lot) with Dallas Buyers Club. Jared Leto is another superb actor.

Yes I absolutely love movies and film. Honestly if I ever went to school for some thing as far as a hobby and I wasn’t worried about making money I would probably go to film school. I first discovered my love Of film because of a Jim Morrison biography read. A lot of people don’t know he graduated from UCLA film school and he talked about how anybody can become an expert on movies And film because it’s the newest art form and it’s only been around for 120 years or whatever it is. Daniel Day Lewis is definitely a gifted actor.. he was really amazing and there will be blood. Probably my favorite movie with Philips Seymour Hoffman is called the master which is basically about Scientology. That movie has Joaquin Phoenix and it’s definitely in my top 10. Joaquin Phoenix character in the movie the master plays an alcoholic very well and accurate. Matthew McConaughey has been in so many good movies it’s hard to pick one But I would probably pick interstellar. I watch the interview with Matthew McConaughey where he talked about how it was really hard to get away from those romantic/comedy rolls he was playing all the time in the early 2000s. What’s that called typecasting? But as far as Dallas buyers club that’s definitely some method acting same with Jared Leto because of the amount of weight they had to lose and they probably had to really become those characters. I really have wanted to make a list of my top favorite 50 or 100 movies or something like that but that would take some serious time and thinking. Right off the bat I can say there will be blood is in my top 10. Also Shawshank redemption, book of Eli Basically really well acted and directed drama movies. Also pretty much anything Martin Scorsese has directed. I could go on and on too much to list

I am a bit of a movie buff myself, my younger brother is much more so and he did go to school for film studies. So we chat a lot about movies, directors and such. I send him articles, especially around awards times, on films and such…he is incarcerated, so it helps him keep up until he gets out.

I did love The Master and Joaquin Phoenix is amazing. He has lots of great stuff too. Also a fan of Matthew McC and Scorsese 's work (Scorsese and Guillermo del toro are 2 of my brothers favorites). GDT makes such interesting films!

I did know that about Jim Morrison and film school. I love the movie about him with Val Kilmer, who really went for it! Have you seen the documentary Val? Highly recommend. Fun fact, I visited Jim Morrison’s original burial site in Pere Lachaise graveyard in Paris, when it still had all the graffiti and the bust of his head. Quite a site back then (early /mid 80s).

I will have to watch Book of Eli.

I like super oldies too (which reminds me of Super 8, fun movie if you grew up in 70s). Casablanca, African Queen, Rebecca (adore + adore Carol Burnett’s parody…also her parody of Sunset Boulevard + that movie…wild old stuff).

Thanks for chatting on movies. :hugs:

I’m sorry to hear about your brother I don’t wish incarceration on anybody Especially when it’s related to addiction or mental health. I hope he’s hanging in there and has a routine and is fairly easy for him all things considered. Been there done that if I’m being honest one of my main motivators for staying sober is that if I relapse I’m going to prison for three years. If anything happens ,any new arrest, even a single failed drug test, any interaction with police I’m getting three years. Even when I get done probation I’m prison mandatory now. So I don’t drink or do opiates and I won’t have to worry about going to prison. Florida is a point system and I have way too many points. Anyway sorry for the story but maybe what I just wrote will help somebody…

That’s pretty interesting you got to see Jim Morrison’s grave. I read his biography when I was 16 years old. That book had a major impact on me because it introduced me to a lot of writers, directors, movies, artist and other musicians I didn’t know about. One that stands out the most is Jack Kerouac. I know just about everything about Jim Morrison. I bought that biography around the same time that I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida. The first album I bought was LA woman which interestingly enough is their last album.. I remember me and my brother were staying in a hotel because we were waiting for the house to be finished and I drove my brother nuts listening to that album Over and over all night long During this time I was sober and hadn’t touched anything not even a single drink. Then I bought the biography and it introduced me to a life honestly I didn’t know about. I can’t blame the doors on my downfall or introduction to drugs alcohol and craziness but it definitely made me curious about a lot.

Definitely watch book of Eli. It’s a post apocalyptic movie with Denzel Washington and Mia Kunis. It’s 10 out of 10 in my opinion. It’s seriously awesome. there will be a scene where there’s a guy running a pawnshop and the guy playing the pawnshop owner is Tom waits who is a musician I’m not sure if you know him.

I haven’t heard Of most of those suggestions but thank you I will definitely look them up.

It would be hard to guess how many movies I’ve watched but well over a 1000. Currently I watch at least one a day. It’s a good healthy escape. I was talking with one of my best friends how it’s interesting that at least speaking for myself I can tell if a movie is good within 60 seconds. I don’t know how to explain that or what makes a movie good or bad but I just know right away.

I’m going to make a list of my favorite movies and post on this thread I don’t think that will bother anybody. I know this is mainly for reviews and one movie at a time but I’m going to post a really long list of my favorites. It won’t take long to make that list
