Movies Check-in / Reviews šŸ“¼

Yeah i feel that, and originality too. Movies felt like stories up until about 2010.

That was the boxing one wasnt it?

Yeah it’s a true story about an underdog boxer. Definitely can watch it more than once in my opinion

Hmmm.. mma… Tom Hardy..

Underdog…

Oh, ā€œThe Warriorā€ might be a movie you like too. Should it be on the top radar absolutely watch this week? No.

But, put it on the list. Lol.

Movies that would make some type of list.

  1. The Pianist.

  2. Dances with Wolves.

  3. Matrix

  4. Full Metal Jacket
    And..

  5. THE TRUMAN SHOW.

But, i might go ahead and put the Book of Eli on before the Hockey season starts.

Because, as much as I dont watch TV or movies anymore.. NHL season is whats on. Lol

It’s on Tubi! I’m going to check this out tonight. I was just looking through and not expecting to find this and you just suggested this last night so that’s pretty cool

Its slow, but bear with it.

The reason i brought this movie up, is either you will piece the bigger picture together. Or, you will love the after talks, the things that ā€œmight have been missed after watching once.ā€

Over-all, Ex-Machina did land an instant classic for me.

Which throws it somewhere in the top 100.

How did you like it?

You know, when i saw your screen shot, A24 came flooding back.

They were on fire with the stories..

They still might be but last time I watched a movie was in February when it was -55 outside lol.

But, there is an idea if you’re ok with slower pacing movies.

A24 dropped amazing stories.

The witch.
Hereditary.
Midsommer.
Everything everywhere all at once.
Uncut Gems.
Moonlight was alright
The Lighthouse was so interesting, but can be skipped..

I could go on, A24 had dropped so many good ones depending on taste.

Ex Machina was and still is my favorite A 24, though.

I love the movie, Flight. It was not what I expected at all when it first came out and was so much better than I imagined.

@Tragicfarinelli , I didn’t remember Patrick Dempsey was the other man in Bridget Jones. We are on a Grey’s Anatomy jag and he is a key character.

Going to see Downton Abby with my Mom soon. We loved the series.

October is for scary movies, which used to be my jam. Did recently watch 27 Years Later and loved it (am a HUGE fan of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland). Looking forward to next one.

I know, right?

To me he’s pretty much the American Hugh Grant in this one; sweetly charming, a bit naughty, and very handsome! I used to love Gray’s anatomy but I lost track several seasons ago!

We had never seen Grey’s, so started at Episode 1, Season 1! We are in Season 11 now. It has become a sweet (most) nightly ritual to watch 1 or 2 episodes. For goodness sake tho, why aren’t these well paid people employing nannies?

Spoiler alert- Flight with Denzel Washington

Yes flight is really good and it’s a good representation of a true alcoholic one of my favorite things in the beginning and one of the first couple scenes that shows him actually on the plane is that Part where he trips going up the stairs on the outside of the plane or slips or whatever it’s just funny because it’s like him trying to hold it together but then he has that little mistake that reminds him that he’s definitely not sober but obviously it’s something nobody sees but it’s just funny because you can’t hide it then when he asked for ibuprofen on the plane and he’s drinking orange juice like everybody knows what’s going on and he thinks he’s being secretive or Nobody knows

Also I think it’s really funny or dead on when he has that important court hearing and they have a guy sitting outside of his room to make sure he doesn’t drink and he ends up pretty much drinking the whole entire mini cooler fridge and it’s like when we have our most important moments where we’re supposed to do good we can’t even do it for that but then of course he ends up admitting that he was drunk on the plane and he’s drunk in the court hearing near the end of the movie. I think he admits that stuff in the court hearing because he knows he’s not going to get better if he keeps bullshitting. Even though he knows he’s going to go to prison or federal prison.

It’s definitely not your typical Hollywood movie as far as someone playing a alcoholic.. I can see what you mean possibly that you didn’t think it was going to be like that I guess is what you mean? Like real ??

Plus the scenes of him driving around just drinking right out of the liquor bottle in the car lol like when you’re in the middle of that lifestyle there is no consequences and it’s just normal

Have you ever seen leaving Las Vegas? I feel like that movie has the most realistic withdrawal scenes that I’ve ever seen at least for somebody that’s drinking very large amounts of alcohol on a daily basis

Ps: I really love movies and I probably watch one every day at least But currently I think I’m going to re-watch Mr. robot about this computer hacker. I’ve seen it two or three times but there’s so much jampacked into the show that you can watch it multiple times

I do love Leaving Las Vegas as well, fantastic movie and very realistic. Flight I just had no idea when I first saw it that it was about alcoholism, so that was a huge surprise and I was still drinking then, and wanting desperately not to, and it was just so true and realistic. Another movie along those lines is with Sigourney Weaver called The Good House…..the book was fantastic as well. Well worth a watch.

There is a thread around with recovery/drinking movies in it….I love those movies….and books.

Oh what a cool article  I actually came across it last night trying to find a link for the movie trailer that wouldn’t open automatically because of the glitch :grimacing: But I didn’t read it until now.

I only watched the movie because of Austin Butler and the way he played Elvis. I enjoyed the movie a lot.

Thanks for the share.
