Musicians, what are your thoughts on AI in the context of music?

AI tools are pretty fun to play with, but does it have a place in music/art?

I used an AI tool on this song. I wrote the lyrics and recorded and mixed rhe instruments, but that’s not me singing.

This is one of my favorite songs. I remember where I was the first time I heard it, I was working as a finished carpenter on a new construction house, I was in a bedroom upstairs working on the baseboard when it came on the radio. I stopped what I was doing, sat next to the radio and listened. Probably the only time a song spoke to me like that.

I’m curious, did you create the melody to the singing and the words or did the AI program create that? I know a lot of people are either hard pro AI or against it. I find it fascinating personally! I dig a few songs that I’m quite sure are AI created, but I when I looked them up it was just speculation on it. I personally like the song Dan! But you know I’m always a fan of your talent.

AI (suno) made the melody and music, I re-recorded the music myself, added my own flair.

There are some tools that you can sing and it will replace your voice with an ai voice, others you can type the lyrics in your DAW as a piano roll, and will add the vocal track.

I think it’s good for getting ideas from your head to people’s ears, quickly and easily, but I also feel it should to be disclosed that it’s not a real artist performing.

I have a “friend” who recently released 2 albums and I’m 99% sure it’s AI in part or whole, yet they claim the vocalist is their “friend” but offered no credit to them, I feel that’s the wrong way to utilize AI for music. Just my opinion. :melting_face:
