Wow, wow, wow! Thank you, Kelly. For sharing your pain and humanity, sharing your journey. The graphic description of your first morning moved me - knowing there are others like me out there consoles me. Your list of positives not only shows tremendous insight, it also brings hope to those starting out.

I’ve been sober a long time. One hugely important tool I have is reading and listening to stories of redemption like yours. You were dead inside and you have come back to life and flourished as you did not believe possible. There is so much love and gratitude in you and in your story! Thank you sincerely.

Which advice do you remember as being most effective? If you care to share.

Well, it’s not something that happens overnight, by any means. I began attending meetings daily and eventually found a sponsor to guide me through the steps.

I’d say acceptance is the most effective way to overcome ruminating guilt. Understanding that there is nothing you can do to change what you’ve done in the past. Stay present and focus on the here and now moving forward.

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” There’s a reason this is said at every meeting. I hope this helps

Christopher…i think give yourself some time with your sobriety…one of the things i learned is that nothing in sobriety happens quickly…no instant gratification anymore…youve kinda gotta re learn patience…stay sober and whilst doing so try and pinpoint what you need to learn and work on about yourself…im getting the impression from a couple of things youve said that your self esteem could use some work…write these things down and go about working on them…as time goes by if u do the work to stay sober and on yourself your mindset begins to change which is one of the gifts of sobriety that is worth waiting for, a couple of things that helped me in the beginning…

Allen cars easy way to stop drinking- its super repetitive but brilliant for changing your mindset on drinking- it changed mine forever

The Stutz documentary on Netflix- this is great for insight and tools to use for life in general

Congratulations on achieving 1 year! That is a huge , huge accomplishment for anyone - let alone all of the obstacles and difficulties you had in your life. We’re all really proud of you and I’m sure, even though you went through a lot of difficult times, getting sober and those experiences will also also make you a better mother. Congratulations!

Yup! Best wake up reading I have had in. Long time. Only 6 days into my sobriety after the first blackout I have ever had last weekend. Never again!

Wow :face_holding_back_tears:
What a great share Kelly. I’m so proud of you.
Your story really touched my heart. I’m also very proud of you for opening up here with us. You’ve learned so much in a year. Your daughter is the luckiest child in the world to have a mum like you. I just loved everything about your share and how your daughter and probably most children aren’t influenced by substances and how they find joy in the everyday. That’s beautiful. It’s so nice we can find that too. I’ve never thought about it that way. I’m so happy for you.

And that’s quite a gratitude list you got yourself there.
You’re one strong amazing mother.
It’s been a pleasure knowing the little bit about you I knew. And now this. I’m just so happy for you.

Lots of peace and love to you in your next year. ODAAT. :pray:t2::heart:
