New here, need an accountability buddy

I’m looking for an accountability buddy™️- someone who’s willing to check in here every day or two with me to keep us both sober and motivated. I dont care where you are in life or your sobriety. Would anyone else benefit from this?

Are you looking for a one on one or a group thing?

I have 5 years but I’d be more than happy to check in with you daily. Anything I can do to help a newcomer benefits my sobriety.

If you want more of a group thing, many use the same check in thread. Not only for accountability, but to get to know each other. Take a look and see what you think.

Hi, I’ve been on the site a while but after a few relapses I’m newly sober. One of my sober tools is checking in here daily so maybe we could help each other?:heart:

I can highly recommend checking in on the thread Lisa posted. You will get to know a lot of the core members of Talking Sober. It helped me alot in early sobriety, just posting about my day, and reading up how everybody else is doing.

I haven’t been around that much lately, so I’ve set myself a personal challenge to check-in every day during January.

Hope to see you posting on the check-in thread, and reading up on me.

Hi Madeline,

I’ll reiterate what many have noted. The daily check in is a fantastic space to be engaged, read, learn about many many members that check in there regularly.
I for one just hit a year sober today and that has been my largest posting spot that keeps me involved and engaged on a daily basis.

There are many many fantastic folks here that engage on that topic and as you familiarize you’ll find interest in many other topics I’m sure to engage in more specific conversations.

The beauty of this place is all the non judgemental and supportive folks that are here. Some are only a short time :pensive:, some come and go and come and go to stay in tune with this place and others are here daily and or multiple times per day, to check in. Whatever they feel comfortable with. The greatest part is there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of folks that have lots of experience in sobriety that continue giving back… it truly is a wonderful community made up of folks from all over the world. Always a supportive ear to be found at any time day or night.

Welcome and hope to see you around.:peace_symbol:

Echoing what others have written: the daily check-in thread is awesome and I am happy to be an accountability buddy if that helps you/anyone.

Thanks for replying, everyone, and thanks for linking the check in thread. I’ll absolutely check that out.

I think I’m looking for some more personal accountability, too. @Lisa07 @LittleMissL @Blondie75 @Dirk I’d love any connection that could happen here regularly to help us both engage with our sobriety. Like a smaller/more personal thread. What do you think?

Remember to come here for support BEFORE the urge to drink gets the best of you. We have talked a lot of people off the ledge over the years.

Is there a particular thread to head to if that happens? Thanks for this advice

I had one a few years ago that got stale. It’s usually best to start your own so whoever sees it first can offer support. PMs don’t always work cause the person might not have access to their phone or computer. Don’t be afraid to start your own post asking for help. It’s a lot better to do that than to relapse.

How are you doing today @Madds
Hope you’ve slept ok, make sure you get some food in you and stay hydrated. Early in sobriety I’d have little treats as Id be craving sugar just holds off the cravings a bit.

I love this. I’ve realized how vulnerable i am to things like hormonal changes or not having my basic needs met, but I’ve never seen it laid out so nicely. Thank you!

I’m probably leaving treatment today. I’m excited after 30 days (including holidays of course) in here but I’m also nervous as hell because accountability is kicking back in before I’m certain I’m ready. How’s your day today, @LittleMissL?

Thank you so much for the first check-in!

You’re going to be ok… take it one day at a time. There’ll be bad days, and on those days take it one thought, one hour at a time.
I too found around that time of the month I was very sensitive to smells and triggers and also the cravings went through the roof, try having treats, a chocolate bar, sweets in the cupboards or soda that will hit the craving and bring it down a bit.
My days ok thanks, had my groceries delivered, going to do some cleaning and wash my bedding. Off to have my nails done tmro with my 19 yr old and lunch so thatll be nice.
Don’t forget we are in your pocket when ever you need us :hugs:

It’s great to see you checking in today, Madeline!
Congratulations on 30 days! :tada: :muscle:
That’s still my favorite milestone so far. My head was finally clear and I felt sobriety was actually attainable. Nature suddenly became beautiful. Something I never noticed in active addiction.
Hope you have a great day! Stay close here when you leave treatment.

Hi Madds, count me in. I would also benefit from this daily checkin

Absolutely! How was your day today?

@Lisa07 thank you very much! Does nature stay beautiful or does it all fade a bit with time?

@LittleMissL I’m excited to hear that you’re going to get pampered with your daughter. Do you see her often?

I just got home from treatment. I’m excited as hell to be out, but nervous and on edge too. I heard today that cockiness is a trait that predisposes people to relapse so i guess it could be a positive thing to be worried. I’m planning to keep a tight circle of support around me and find some groups to try to engage with. I’m also meeting with my professional care team this week to get reestablished. Here’s to another month. I hope youre all well today. I appreciate you for being here.

Hey  Madds
Didn’t know this was your thread.

I was looking for a meeting or 2 I use yo go to In Scottsdale if you’re interested.

I use to go to the one. Great bunch. Men and women. Heavy on the men. But very seasoned in recovery. (Old guys :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)
Anyway I liked it.

They also have one Sunday night. I didn’t go to that one. I was across the hall at My Al-Anon group.

There was a great Speakers meeting at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church by The Boulders on Tom Darlington. 5:30 pm on Fridays. But I can’t find it listed on the AA website. Maybe it moved. I loved that meeting. Lots of people. Good speakers. They give out chips. Good mix of woman and men. Ask around see if it’s still there. I think speakers meetings are the best.

Aw Dazercat, 1) welcome yes i made A Thread, i suppose and 2) this is actually so timely and helpful, thank you so much! I’m certainly looking for meetings of all sorts (recovery and/or mental health centered), and definitely around the phoenix metro area. I appreciate the local suggestions a ton! I’d love to check out both of those meetings in the very near future. I hope you’re well today:)

Thanks.

I did a lot more Al-Anon recovery meetings in Scottsdale. So I only know those 2 AA ones. But I felt like there was some great recovery there in my short time there.
