Shit. I wish I knew a way to make this easy, but I have yet to find it. Best tip I have? Be ready to work hard. Then work harder. I came in with the mindset that I was willing to do whatever it takes, and so far I have been. I don’t drink one day at a time. I go to meetings and I connect with my higher power. There’s other things I do as well but those are my big three.

Hi. My name is Trudy. I came in at almost 35, needing to drink daily to not be sick. I stopped getting any enjoyment from it years before I stopped. And when I say came in I’m referring to a 12 step program. Even though I had lost almost everything, and I was sitting in detox, again, on the phone, begging my mom to not take my son to cps, who was 10 years old at the time. My liver was only functioning at 60%, and I was borderline diabetic. Exactly as my father was when he drank himself to death at 47. And my big brother at 56. Fast forward, i stayed sober one day at a time, by God’s grace! Next week, June 8th, i will celebrate 19 years. Today my baby boy is 29!i stayed sober thru 2 siblings and my mom dying, my best friends daughter committing suicide, 2 divorces, my son overdosing, and many suicides, deaths related to alcoholism, and the many that died sober. I have always made my sobriety #1 in my life. I diligently do whatever the program suggests. Find people in your community that know how to help! Go to meetings! Every single day God to a meeting! My liver is 100% healed, my kidney function is prefect! I’ve rebuilt relationships! Life is good even when it’s hard!!

If you’re looking for your old self, you’ll find them.

I have found AA and the 12 steps are making things much easier than going alone. I’m changing. I’m more open within myself and to others. I’m finally finding peace and figuring out new things about myself.

My relationship is being fixed. The noisy head is quietening and I’m learning to let go.

Thanks for reminding me of those, Alex.

Get as much help as you can and keep talking (here or with others), drink water, take vitamins and rest.

Hi @stopping, welcome! There was a great thread here about favourite benefits of stopping drinking alcohol and I bookmarked it because I found it so helpful and uplifting: Favorite things about being sober

I have so many benefits of not drinking, but the main one is getting my life back, getting myself back.

Stick around and good luck with your journey
