Paris 2024 Olympics

Olympics fans, share your thrills!

Today’s thrill for me: the upset win by Canadian Eleanor Harvey in fencing. It was a hard fought match with brilliant work on both sides.

What are some of the events and athletes you’re watching?

Me too. I wouldn’t mind being in Tahiti for this :star_struck:

Super pumped for this too. Breaking (break dancing) is an exciting new event on the program.

I wonder if the attendees of DJ Kool Herc’s party in 1973 would have seen the future of breaking in the Olympics? :innocent:

That’s gonna go down well :astonished:

I wonder if the kids in my 1980s jr high that drug around the cardboard and boomboxes would ever have dreamed it, either! Pretty fantastic

I’m excited for swimming too. I love the sport: it’s so intense and focused - one lane, one swimmer, one direction, no distractions - and that focus makes it a thrilling sport to watch. (Especially that closing lap when it gets really intense!)

I’m excited for basketball too. Canada’s playing Olympic basketball for the first time since I was in school! :flushed: We shall see. They need to play a little more intensely than they did today if they want to get to the podium :unamused: :innocent:

Ah the Olympics is just feel good factor all the way.

Ps - back in the day I did discus, shot and 100m sprint relay for my school. I was South Liverpool district champion at shot and discus a number of times, representing Liverpool in the latter.

I didn’t get a chance to watch skateboarding at the 2020 Games - this will be great to see!

There’s an official Olympics Skateboarding channel on YouTube: it has replays from 2020; maybe they will also stream replays from this year?

Failing that, it’s worth checking around online, there must be somewhere it can be streamed live.

The Olympics website has an overview of the sport, including videos and an explanation of the rules:

That explains your passion for running today I suppose :innocent:

Any pics of you in your track days?

No there’s no pics of me in my past athletic life. I left school in 1982. We didn’t even have computers in school back then and taking photos of everything wasn’t the every day norm it is today! :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:
