I love watching fencing, swimming, beach volleyball, handball and the longbow competitions. And I’ll surely watch the rowing match tomorrow morning as well. Olympic games are such happy times

The German commentator on the equestrian races was hilarious. It’s such fun to learn more about some niche sport.

It took me 6 days to realize all Olympic sports are streamed live on HBOMax :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:. Now I do know all I do when at home is watch :upside_down_face:. Just saw Canada narrowly beat Spain in basketball. Canada has a good team, too bad they lack a top big man.

In Dutch Olympic news, the team added another two golds today, one in rowing (where else) and one in sailing, despite a crazy ending to the medal race, where the Dutch ladies missed the official finish line at first. Instead of wining the last race they finished third, which was just enough for the gold medal.

And of course tomorrow morning Simon will row his final in the single skulls. As well as Karolien Florijn in the ladies race. Gogogo!!! :rowing_man: :rowing_woman:

One of my favourite Olympic sports and one for the history books tonight: Teddy Riner wins a third gold medal in five Olympic Games in front of his home crowd, scoring Ippon against the world champion. Legend.

Right!

The USA has the top tier team in basketball but the sport was actually invented by a Canadian :slightly_smiling_face: My mother lives a few minutes’ drive from his hometown!

Netherlands had a strong swim in the women’s 200 m breaststroke - I saw Tes Schouten’s race and her performance was excellent :pinched_fingers: :+1:

My fingers are crossed for Ollie Zeidler. (Sorry Menno, Alisa :yum:) It’s gonna be an exciting race.

Congrats to Ollie. The best by a mile. Simon tried to go with him which cost him silver in the end. At least he got a medal.

I think Simon did marvellous. Congratulations also, hope you get a chance to touch the bronze medal at some point :3rd_place_medal:. You must be so proud! Zeidler rowed like a machine, he was deep in the zone. It’s the first gold for Germany in over 30 years I think.

Canada’s football run is done! Canada falls to the Germans - the game was a pleasure to watch; there were strong plays on both sides - but in penalty kicks, the Germans came out with the win.

What a story! It’s not a Cinderella story exactly - Cinderella didn’t have a drone; it was a pumpkin and she was home by midnight folks - but it felt that way. In any case, it’s been a thrill watching these players pull together and bring out the best in themselves, on and off the pitch.

They fought valiantly and I really feel for them… two of them are current Chelsea players so I see them play often. Lawrence is a warrior in open play, but her penalty was weak. Fleming should have been on the pitch still to take the first pen, but I think she was struggling with a niggle. Sad after all they have been through. The Germans have already been beaten by the USA 4-1 in group stage so I am disappointed to not see an America Vs Canada semi.

I hope you get a decent coach next and that the federation looks into this drone business as I’ve read that it’s a thing with the men’s team too… Why you would scout a NZ team training before a GROUP match I’ve no idea, bonkers.

They deserve proper funding and for all the noise to go away, the team should matter more than they have so far. I vote Casey Stoney for Canada coach. Wishing them well, a great group of people who fought so hard despite it all

Loved the St. Lucian runner, Julien Alfred, winning the very first Olympic medal :1st_place_medal: Gold!! for their country! So wonderful to see!!

That was a thrilling race! What an event: dramatic, best runners in the world :star_struck: Alfred ran brilliantly - a perfect run, right out of the blocks, no doubt about it. (Must be something in the food out there in the Caribbean. I gotta see if I can work something in to improve my own running times :innocent:)
