People places and things - need to change

Had to reset the timer today :disappointed: I was good for 14 days…It doesn’t sound like much but I was very happy about it.

Fortunately I’m not beating down on myself this time. Just restart and keep pressing forward.

I really need to curtail the company I keep around me. It’s really hard to stay clean when the people around me are all doing blow.

Make that neigh impossible. You need to change your social circle my friend. If you can call a group of people doing blow that. Gotta change your life. Start anew. Good you’re here. Lots of support to find. Success aand power to you!

Hey there…I spent a lot of time drinking and doing blow. A lot. When I got clean 5.5 years ago, it involved a deleting of every contact I had in my phone, and a promise to myself not to see any of them again. I quit that social circle cold turkey. Lo and behold…I haven’t touched cocaine since. You know what to do

Thanks for the support, y’all. I appreciate it :purple_heart:

I’m a great believer in " I only had to change one thing to stay sober and that was everything"

The flip side of that coin though is that it’s an inside problem and not an outside one. I have a friend who still goes to the pub /bar most days bc that’s where his friends are but he has made it clear to them what he is doing, even the bar staff refuse to serve him alcohol and don’t charge him for his lemonade and blackcurrent.

Real friends will support you… The rest offer you drugs.

Not to sound judgemental but nobody doing blow is in a great place with their lives… You’re right it’s probably time for a change of scenery. I’d never associate with someone who does that. Just sounds like trouble.

Meth or heroin, sure, but I’ve known lots of well adjusted people that used blow as a party drug once in a while when I was younger, especially when I was in college. The biggest issue with Coke, is that it’s extremely addictive, but the acute effects of it are honestly less dangerous than alcohol IMO.

But the rest of us are doing great :joy:

That’s not accurate. One line of coke can kill. Combine it with alcohol, it’s even worse. And let’s be honest, most coke users use alchohol / benzos to come down from it. That’s without mentioning how street coke is cut with god-knows-what into oblivion (most recently that fentanyl thing that offers an instant trip to the afterlife). You might wanna stop romanticing and defending drugs/alchohol on a sobriety forum.

Well said.
But if there’s one silver lining with Coke, it is that Coke is - according to my psychiatrist, who also taught Addiction Neuroscience classes at my Rehab - is the easiest drug to kick. As long as you avoid People, Places, Things and keep at your Recovery Plan, Coke doesnt give you the kind of cravings that other substances do. It’s easier to stay away from than Weed or even Booze. Ironically, Booze is probably the hardest, especially since it has legal and social sanction. Weed has that too now, and he referred to it as “the great deceiver”.

The catch is that if you’re an addict, it isn’t enough to stay away from your substance of choice. You have to stay away from it all. Including alcohol. One beer today can lead to a full-blown coke binge before you know it.

A clean, healthy life is the cure, one day at a time.

But you know what, when you think about it, that doesn’t sound like a bad thing, does it?

Please be careful hanging around a circle of friends that are doing blow. I’m not sure about the age you were talking about. But if they are doing it often, it’s only a matter of time until their nose gives out, and they start freebasing. That does not end well.

Someone else was totally right when they talked about using alcohol or benzos to calm down. I think that did something to my drinking. I’m not sure what. When I quit that, I was like I’m gonna be a good boy. Is it this Saturday night and just kick back with the 12 pack……:man_shrugging:

That’s so true! I kicked coke long before alcohol and all it took was moving somewhere where my dealer wasn’t. (Different country lol, but still!).

I just didn’t have that emotional connection or physical addiction with coke as I did with alcohol.

Not sure if this is going to help but it gave me a push when I needed it. Have you ever looked into how cocaine is made? Part of the process involves diesel fuel and drywall plaster then some guys feet stomping all over that shit in jungle somewhere. Then who knows how many other nasty substances get put in it as it makes it’s way to wherever you are. I’m struggling with alcohol at the moment. Today is my day 1 for the 1000th time it feels like . But I know inside I really want to be sober. Just stay at it! You got this👊🏻

I finally get that alcohol is a very destructive addiction in the long run. Right now I am just drinking in moderation-very limited drinking. I am having a tough time not smoking weed because of scared of being a tea totaller. I can’t understand why people don’t have to stop smoking cigarettes because it’s hell to quit according to a lot of people. The only addiction I have other than the two drugs I mentioned is to read books. Best wishes for everyone on this site!! :sparkling_heart:

What’s so bad about being teetotal? Why are you so scared of the prospect of not taking mind-altering substances anymore?

Is moderation really working for you?

You don’t have to reply, these are deeply personal questions I had to answer for myself before I finally stopped drinking for good.

14 days is definitely something to be proud of! Glad to hear that you are not giving up on yourself and getting right back on the horse.

It is unfortunate sometimes but yes, we really do need to change up our routines and our social circles in an effort to protect our sobriety. Wishing you luck my friend. I did find that being super active here was and still is very instrumental in my sobriety.

Yeah you definitely have to make changes on those things that you already mentioned. The thing about recovering from addiction is that when you no longer want that old life you’ve got to make a new life in Its place. That’s something that I had read online that I couldn’t believe I had never thought of before. It’s not enough to just stop the old habit which you need to feel that space that that old substance or activity used to feel. There’s going to be extra time when you are no longer spending that time acquiring and using a substance but they’re also may seem like once we are getting sober we have less time because some things make time fly by for us. It’s important that we adjust accordingly. And that adjustment process can be so difficult I get it! I’m struggling myself with it. You are correct, you just have to get back up and keep going but don’t be too down on yourself for the fact that you messed up. You don’t want to just give up or lose your determination on it but it does not help anything to beat yourself down. I’ve been trying to quit drinking (AGAIN) recently and I would get like one day and then have to hit reset and I did that a couple times and I want to say one day I got about 2 days and reset and prior to me downloading the app I had already had some days where I would go a day or a few days and then I would drink and I always just felt so frustrated that I was set back and so disappointed in myself. I think that’s a normal part of recovery, really. But what matters is that you get back up and keep going.

Good point about the manufacturing of cocaine. And let’s not forget how it is sometimes smuggled into the country and passed into a toilet inside the hotel next to the airport.

And congratulations on quitting drinking. Keep up the good work. It just keeps getting better and better.
