Photos of where you live

I love that the water is cool and refreshing. The heat is a bit too hot for sure - take care :hugs:

And if you’ve never seen a real-life tumbleweed, here ya go. They’re usually rounder, but it’s a tumbleweed nonetheless. It can still tumble.

Wait, you don’t mean Akron NY?! If you do, we had a lot in Leisurewood campground and spent most of our summers there  If not, then you’ll have no idea what I’m talking about  More on that once I know the answer…

All of the boat traffic is recreational. People come to my city specifically for our locks and boat tours on the canal, which run multiple times a day. Plus anyone who travels via canal. I guess I don’t really think that much about the fact I’m driving over it multiple times a day :upside_down_face: It’s just part of my city.

We vacationed at Lake Champlain when I was young! I remember it being a nice trip :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Laura - Nope, I mean the “real” Akron, Akron Ohio. I didn’t even hear of the one in New York until I was in my twenties! My family lived in the same part of town as the Sieberling estate, where Bill Wilson and Bob Smith had their first meeting, and at one time I had an apartment about 3 blocks from Dr. Bob’s house, and I never knew it was there. I went from the birthplace of AA to the birth state of its founders! Since getting sober, I’ve been to Dr. Bob’s house in Akron, and also to his childhood home in St. Johnsbury, VT. Still haven’t made it down to East Dorset, Bill’s childhood home yet. After 20+ years sober in VT, you’d think I‘d have made the trip, but it’s still on the bucket list…

And you know what - the canal in Akron is the “Ohio and Erie”, not the Erie Canal! The O&E runs north and south, from the lake to the Ohio River on the southern border of the state. I had always thought it was part of the Erie Canal, famed of song and story. Thanks for prompting me to clear that up!

Yeah, I kinda figured. Akron, NY is pretty small, but it is the birthplace of Perry’s Ice Cream :face_savoring_food: So it’s got that going for it :soft_ice_cream: :+1: Also this huge, gorgeous park I’ve been meaning to post photos of since our visit last month (probably gonna go do that next)

I thought it only ran thru NYS (Only learned about it in every history class I ever took ) and I didn’t think it ran near Akron either. But I also can’t really trust my memory alot of the time, so…:grimacing::sweat_smile:

I didn’t know that history about AA and where it started tho. Very cool stuff!
