No, thank you from me. I can usually read posts and know who posted it before I even look at their username. For need for language - cool. If you feel obsessed with it, cool. I don’t want to be in a community that most language is generated by a computer.
Very much speaking as a member not a mod.
This is exactly the experience someone who is speaking in their non-native language while trying to do recovery feels. They have complex emotions, complicated situations, and they have to simplify and dilute because that is all they can say. AI can help non-native speakers keep the humanity in what they want to say.
Sometimes i type with one hand while im working, may just be as good as a AI explination on some of the AIsites lol
AI pics are weird too
I like using AI for looking up info quickly
Not to pose as something im not
As for using it for other laguages (not bashing this)
… that makes sence but it takes away from learning the language too
Im not AI lol
We pronounce it basically the same exact way! ![]()
AI, Billionaires and data centers are evil. Just my opinion. I avoid AI at all costs.
Just to clarify a few things (and to possibly derail this even further).
Someone said that using AI as a foreign language tool takes away from learning a language. It’s actually the opposite. AI can be a good teacher, if you ask it to correct your mistakes and walk you through them. You gain understanding. So you’re not asking AI create text for you but to review what you’ve already written in a language you have some level command of. Random googling can help but it takes time. It also does not tackle complex syntax or tell you how to express something so that it sounds “native”. It’s a question of finding a source of information. I don’t have my former language teachers on speed dial, now do I.
I understand @Misokatsu ‘s frustration about not being able to express deep feelings and thoughts. Anyone who has ever lived in a foreign country with limited understanding of the local language, would. I have had people question my intelligence based on my ability to speak their language.
I’m not taking a stand for AI here but wanting to give a glimpse of what it’s actually like to navigate things with a foreign language. Because if you’ve never learnt anything apart from your mother tongue, you really, REALLY have no idea. But what do I know, I only learnt 4 foreign languages in high school (and some fellow Europeans have learnt even more) ![]()
This really stands out to me. Having had extended stays in other countries where I barely knew a few words, it was very much a challenge. I relied on the little pocket translators as this was before google was even an idea. The challenge of nuance of language or expression of feelings would certainty be quite difficult. 25 years later I am still a novice with Jamaican patois, which is a very feelings forward language, tho English is spoken everywhere, patois takes you further.
Thank you for sharing, Olivia.
Thank you for correcting me
Stay strong and brave always my friend. ![]()
