Has any one read or researched ego death as it pertains to sobriety? I’ve seen a lot of articles that talk about Carl Jung and his ideas about Ego/shadow. I feel like my experience has brought on at least a little bit of an ego death. I guess I’m just looking for suggestions as to where I can read more about this in relation to alcoholism.

I am seeing a Jungian psychotheripist currently. For me, ego death has not been a sudden global transformation of all things. Rather I find that there have been events that have rapidly changed portions of my ego. For instance, the spiritual experience I had when getting sober only shifted part of my life, well ok my whole life bc alcohol was my entire life. But the openness that has occurred as a result of sobriety has allowed other numinous events and spiritual experiances to occur and change me in ways that I have never thought possible. It is through these experiances that other portions of my ego die or fade away and are reborn or reshaped into a new consciousness of sorts.
@Lionfish I’m happy I searched on ego and found this thread. This is what I need.
A weird comment for me to make in a sobriety forum. But look at ego death in relation to DMT, and ibogaine. It has turned people’s lives around. Super interesting! Essentially, they can break all the habit mechanisms in the brain. Giving you almost a fresh start.
Hopefully people don’t poo poo me before they research it on their own.
I’ve seen the research as well & I’m open minded to the idea of it.
