Questions about Canada

Hey @mx_elle or @Butterflymoonwoman ,

What are these things called poutine and Tim Hortons I read about?

Tim hortons is a very well known coffee fast food restaurant chain here in Canada. Their coffee is addictive i tell you (at least in my opinion). They serve food items there also like wraps, donuts, bagels, lunch items etc.
Poutine at its very basic nature is french fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy. BUT… u can add whatever u like to it!! I love pulled pork poutine, taco poutine, you can literally make anything into a poutine lol its the best :ok_hand:

So is Tim Hortons coffee better than Starbucks coffee?

Cheese curds and brown gravy…Hmm…I am still pondering this combination. It certainly sounds interesting…In America there is a really odd state called Wisconsin who I could see creating such a combination.

To the best of my knowledge Starbucks don’t make coffee… They make, at best, brown water.

I prefer tim hortons over starbucks coffee for sure (except starbucks has wayyyyy better Frappuccinos lol). I find starbucks coffee tooo strong for my liking. Lsst time I bought a Starbucks coffee i had to dump half of it out to add enough cream and sugar to make it enjoyable for myself to drink haha Those that are “coffee connoisseurs” would probably find tim hortons very watered down and weak tasting tho lol But alot of people really like Timmies here.
You should totally get the poutine trend going over there. Have u ever seen a poutine being sold anywhere at all?! I feel like that combination of food is something that others in the States would try at some point

Similar to what we call disco fries here in the US (or maybe just Jersey). Instead of cheese curds we use mozzarella cheese.

Disco fries? Is that a New Jersey thing?

Oh yeah I like coffee that is stiff, but not mud.

I thought it was an American thing but based on your post, I guess it’s a Jersey thing.

I mean each state or region has its own thing. For example women born in Wisconsin all either have a crush on Brett Farve or Aaron Rodgers…

Isn’t Wisconsin one of the southern provinces?

That would make a lot of sense actually…

I’m from the US, but I love Poutine! We visited my SIL in Alberta over the summer and had to binge while I was there. There’s only one place here where I live that serves it. We don’t eat out a lot, so it’s always a special treat.

Back in the late 80’s - early 90’s we called poutine Gooey fries up here in northwestern British Columbia. That was before the French peeps from Quebec claimed they invented the dish and called it Poutine.

And Tim Hortons is American owned now. And I’d say McDonalds coffee is better nowadays.

As someone who sold coffee to businesses, including Starbucks, it is my qualified opinion that Tim Hortons is better than Starbucks. Pretty much every chain/franchise coffee is better than Starbucks. What makes Starbucks “drinkable” is all the stuff they add to it when making it “gourmet”. Lavazza, Peets, Dunkin, heck 7/11 coffee is better than Starbucks if you drink it black.

I agree.

I’m not a huge coffee person but I drink a fair amount of it and in my opinion, plain black Starbucks coffee is basically the worst coffee out there.

Coffee from 7/11, Dunkin’ Donuts, Tim Horton’s, etc. is definitely all much better than Starbucks.

Can i just say that those French Dudes from Quebec did us all a justice by not allowing them to be called “Gooey Fries”?:face_vomiting:
