Recovery and Christmas

It’s fast approaching!
the hardest time of year for recovering addicts!
Christmas and New Year

whether you are an ex-drug addict spending it alone because you’ve alienated your family and can’t hang out with addict friends or an ex-alcoholic trying to stay sober whilst your friends and family drink!
it is a bloody hard time!

let’s face it this is the time of year when its most make or break!

so what are your plans and strategies to get through the next 5 or so weeks?

Also, is anyone a bit peeved by the fact that though there are hundreds of charities out there to help people at Christmas, there isn’t a single one for people like us?
not one advert saying support your addicted family members don’t make them sit on their own at this time of year!
Let’s face it excluding an EX addict from the Christmas dinner table isn’t helping them

Same as yesterday, the day before and today. To not drink today, using the tools I have and go to bed sober tonight

Yeah, Xmas is gonna be hard because I’m spending it alone, kids are with their mother. My last 4 or 5 of Xmas’ have been shitty because I’ve been wasted, so now it’s gonna be a totally different experience. I’m not worried about relapsing, but I’m worried about the mental rollercoaster. But like @Von100 said, same tools for Xmas than every other day. Actually I’m looking forward to Xmas, to eat good vegan food and some snacks, reading, walking and watching movies. It should be fun despite the mental turmoil!

There are several threads on Christmas Time Sober. You are not alone, preparing for this time of the year emotionally and tool-wise is always a good idea.
I link this recently bumped thread on the topic for all who want to read: Why would you "test" your sobriety? - #257 by Englishd
