4 years. So much has changed since I decided to never drink again. What occurred yesterday was a huge reminder of what comes with saying “no” to the drink that matters…the first drink.
My employer had our holiday party, yesterday. They had it at a brewery. I drank iced tea. Then I went home, changed and went to my Krav Maga class. My instructor asked me to teach the class. The owner has asked me to begin teaching four nights a week in January. Two weeks from tonight, I will receive my black belt.
I think that kind of sums up what being sober makes possible. Sober, I have strength in mind, body, and spirit.
And now, ice cream. That’s how we do it. Old school.
That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing your story… It definitely feels great to be sober and to see how far you can go. Enjoy the ice cream, and teaching the class. Sounds fun!
Congratulations! Four years of saying “No” to the first drink. And you did it classy Krav Maga style. I will root around in the freezer and see if there’s not a bit of ice cream I may have in your honor.
I’m so glad I logged in tonight and saw this. Congratulations @Yoda-Stevie!!! Thank you for being such an inspiration on my own journey, you literally helped save my life. Thank you for being you, you bring light and help change lubes and ill be forever thankful for you. I’m stoked to see your update and that you are celebrating your big day!
Now, I must ask since I’m me lol…What is your favorite change so far?
Huge Congratulations!
You’ve been such inspiration to me. When a thought of a drink comes to mind, so does your motto. You’ve helped my sobriety in more ways than you’ll ever know. Thank you for giving so much wisdom to this community. I’ll celebrate with you tonight by having ice cream.
Congratulations YS!! 4 years is a beautiful accomplishment. Thank you for sharing your journey, inspiration and wisdom…your words have lifted me up at times so much more than I can express. So very happy for you!!
Your journey through sobriety has positively affected so many more people than just yourself.
Your thoughtful wisdom shared in simple lessons anyone can act on has no doubt saved many a traveler weary on their sober road.
CONGRATULATIONS!
I’ve gained much from your presence here and wish only the best of things for you and your family as you forge further forward in successes crafted by your commitment, attitude, and intelligence.
Super congratulations @Yoda-Stevie
Doesn’t time fly?!
I want to say thank you for being so inspirational. I hear your words often too. In fact I quoted you on Thursday!
I clearly remember you helping me so much when I was floundering so badly. I still get up and make my bed every day. I needed simple basics like that to help me to simply DO something, instead of just sinking deeper into my quicksand, my life.
I also like how you suggest writing the number of sober days on my wrist. When craving/temptation strikes, I use it to remember how far I’ve come; what I have to lose. It took me 7 months of really trying to get past 6 days AF.
Here’s another one, when you pointed out that you can see pretty clearly what’s needed, whereas those struggling with so much can feel like they’re in the middle of tornado. Too much, too many feelings and troubles. It can be painful in there. You provide clarity and hope.
What an awesome thing to come read at the end of a very long week. I came to TS just a few weeks after you, and your words have played through my head as part of my continuous sobriety mantra for almost four years now. Thank you for your wisdom, candor and humility @Yoda-Stevie . Thanks for lighting the way. Many congratulations on four years!!!
Kick-ass! A well deserved milestone and great personal accomplishments to boot. I feel, you are one of the rocks for me on here, as many others do as well. Have an outstanding weekend and happy 4th soberversay, Leatherneck!
Congratulations with the 4 year milestone big man!
Thank you for your contributions here, always like to read what you write!
Well done for the black belt as well🎉
