Relapse and feeling horrendous

Hey guys, I relapsed a day ago after 4 months.

Ive managed 3 years before as my longest stretch.

I thought id ring everyone during my relapse and slag my husband off something chronic saying things I didnt mean. Just being pure nasty for no reason other than certain things were getting to me. I feel so bad for him and the things I said. I downloaded this app before on my 3 year stretch and it worked.. I’ve had years out from this app though. Guys im just feeling bad.. im feeling so so bad.

Everything will be just fine. :purple_heart:
We are all human, we make mistakes, we fall, we stand up again, we move on, we change.
Will it matter in a year what you said or did? If not, apologize and become the best version of yourself and look into the future!
Its a big chance to start again :green_heart: lots of postive energy for you

That shame and guilt can be a good motivator. I had to keep remembering all the horrendous crap I did to others and myself to keep me from staying stuck on the treadmill of drinking and using. It definitely sucks feeling that way. But as you know with your previous 3 years of sobriety, you don’t have to stay stuck in those patterns and you don’t have to ever wake up to that kind of guilt and regret again. That is definitely a true gift of sobriety.

So glad you came back, I hope you stick around and lean into the support available here. This place continues to help a lot of people. :people_hugging:

Welcome to talking sober, @Mountainmoon and cool username

I’m so sorry that your relapse is having such painful consequences on you and the people around you. I know exactly how it feels to act horrible during a night drinking and to wake up to awful shame the following day. You know how to be sober, love. Back on the horse, stay with us now. These feelings will fade with time and sobriety. Make your apologies and stick around.

I have felt that way before…

As you say, it’s an horrendous feeling.

Thank you for sharing. I can imagine, relapsing after that kind of streak must be excruciating in certain ways.

I’m so encouraged, though, to hear that your feelings did not crush your willingness to continue trying.

You’re an encouragement to me, for sure. :purple_heart:

Hey, thank you so much for your words.

Damn its so painful right? Made my apologies etc but im still feeling shame today. Another hard thing is having to carry on with the outside world (I have a wedding to photograph tomorrow) I have zero energy to be dealing with it. But I will deal with it.

Im back on the horse… and I will stay with you guys.

Thank you so much again.. means alot x

Wow thank you so much..

Its pain. Shame..guilt and the spiral that it makes.. I am taking positive steps externally and have reached for help from my doctor along with being honest with people.

Big sigh! Here again… painful black hole i need to pull myself out of…. I wish self love came easy.

I just hope I can be forgiven.. I hope I can forgive myself.

Thank you so much :beating_heart: x

It’s okay to feel bad and ashamed, but you need to reflect on you. I too recently relapsed and its a horrible feeling. Especially when it affects those you love.. you have a community here online and I have heard AA is good too they normally do in person or zoom meeting depending on the area.. try not to be too hard on yourself. You’ve out in A LOT of work, from this point one find a small thing or 2that make you smile through the day. Sorry if that sounds corny I had therapy today lol
