I cant keep my legs still, it’s day two of no alcohol for me. Did anyone else experience this and is it linked to giving up? If so does it usually last long? I’m annoying myself now
No not really hot and cold just jittery and can’t keep still… my legs ache and I need to keep moving and stretching them, also pretty grumpy but I guess that’s to be expected.
I had restless legs few weeks/month into stopping my doc and had loads hot showers or baths with relaxing muscle soak stuff etc and a good tip I got was going to sleep and putting vapour rub/balm on your feet then socks on, seemed to work well for me as I was constantly restless
I don’t think so. I’m not shaking. It’s hard to explain. My legs just need to move. I’m going to try and sleep I think.
It could just be restless leg syndrome that was muted by the drinking? Totally guessing. Not a doctor!
There are things that help though. I’ve had it come and go in the past. Exercising a few days a week. Low impact stuff that increases blood flow. Even just a rigorous walk. And not close to bed time, at least a few hours before or earlier.
Also there are stretches that can help.
Circulation can be off by a lot depending how much you drank and how active. With time and care, we can bounce back.
Hunts for the vapour rub and old socks… thanks I’ll try it.
Thanks I feel like my body is telling me to stretch so that may help.
Lol go head and definitely worth a try, it’s so annoying like your legs got a mind there own hey, but will subside eventually. Oh and that old faithful…yoga to do leg stretches & unwind etc

And can always ask a doctor if it persists!
Thanks Eke that’s really helpful information. Honestly I love this place you are all so great.
I think this could be restless leg syndrome. I’ve had this and used Floradix which you can get on Amazon. I still use it now at 192 days and find it helps
Take melatonin
A milder effect of unopposed glutamate activity after taking away the usual sedative (GABA-agonist) your brain was working to overcome/re-establish homeostasis? Should diminish with time!
Yes I had restless legs. It was the meds I was on. I was on 3 types but in pretty sure it was the trazadone that was the culprit.
I get restless legs even months after. Yes it does relate to stopping your use of drug/alcohol. It does get better. Stay strong friend. You got this
I have read that alcohol can deplete magnesium in your system and restless leg syndrome has been tied to magnesium deficiency. Something to consider. Maybe increase magnesium rich foods in your diet like almonds, spinach, avocado, etc. Couldn’t hurt to try.
Yes I definitely experienced this after stopping drinking, I would lay down in bed and actually have to get up again because the feeling of having to move my legs was too much, I’d go and walk around in the lounge. If I sat down it was the same, I had the constant urge to move my legs and even standing still I could still feel it. It’s really hard to describe, it’s not a pain though, maybe a dull burning but that doesn’t really describe it either just an urge to move and like you said a jittery feeling in your legs. I’m sure for me a lot of it was related to anxiety and to all the changes that happen in the nervous system while it settles down to having no alcohol on board. I’m not exactly sure how long it lasted, I just gradually became less aware of it, I’d say a week at most. Hopefully you should start to see some improvement soon
I’ve only had restless legs twice… once with my first pregnancy and the second time after quitting alcohol for the first time last year. It was sooooo miserable. What helped me was running, even though I wasn’t a runner. I remember eating breakfast and lunch at home, almost in tears bc of the restless leg sensation and then going for a run after each meal. I also itched everywhere. Both lasted 3-4 weeks.
I had horrible RLS during my withdrawal phase from pain pills. I started taking magnesium at night and a hot Epsom salt bath and it helped and old wives tale is to put a bar of soap under your fitted sheet. Ivory or Irish spring and I did that as well. I don’t know if it was in my head but it worked. Good luck. It’s so annoying and will wear you out
