Got back out there finally. Wore long joggers and it was too hot , but did 2 songs run, 1 song walk, 2 songs run, one song walk, then alternated run and walk for a song a couple more times.
I did 6 easy miles. That half marathon took a lot out of me for some reason last Sunday. First run since then. Every once in awhile I get this feeling the top of my femur is just gonna pop out of my hip. Ha, getting old! I’ll keep battlin!!
@Runningfree How ya feeling? I was happy to see the 5k show up!!
Feeling decent! It’s been a few days since my back felt this good so I’m taking advantage. Got my run in, took Haley walking, did some cleaning and about to do some Christmas shopping.
I almost did some yoga or cycling but I couldn’t get the run bug out of my mind.
Any advice for running in the snow/ice? I’ve been training for a high altitude marathon and since the snow started a few weeks back have had a few times where I’ve nearly slipped because of how slippery it is. I’m anxious about slipping and hurting myself. There is no paved roads, no tracks, no plows to plow and where there is no snow there is just ice. Now I’m used to walking on ice and am fine with that. In the past I’ve just stopped running in the winter because of the conditions but I really want to do this marathon in the spring and the marathon will be in a similar environment probably with snow and ice in spots. So any advice on what could help to make running less slippery or safer would be great.
Something like this may help. I’ve never personally run in snow or ice. @Gorden you are up north. Do you have any ideas?
Wish I had a better answer… I just slow way down. I have tried some things but just don’t like anything on my feet. I actually like blazing a trail through the snow and beating it down with fellow runners over time. Then it snows again, haha! Ice? Yeah, way slow and no sudden changes of speed or direction.
I do have the occasional fall each winter.
First 3km run with my 8 year old yesterday(and mine in weeks), he smashed it only walked for a couple mins at the 2km mark
He was wearing my watch, I would be in ICU if that was my average heart rate over the run
I am thinking about a run this year. I didn’t have any pain in my left toe after my long hike. It’s probably the shoes. I’d like to go running again a bit. Never worked out in the long ‘run’ meaning after some weeks. I’ll see.
I love running in snow. Everything is s calm and the soothing sounds of the steps in the snow. We don’t have snow often anymore. It’s often only dirty mud, rain, wet.
That’s my normal easy pace heart beat I’ve tried hard to get it to come down but no matter what I do that’s about where it stays. Hard running I’m up in the 170-180s
Yes, snow running rules! I would add: Large snowflakes trickling down at night with no wind against a full moon backdrop is about as good as gets.
Why and how long do runners live longer than others who don’t exercise as much? Read this to find out!
Had a great run(for me!). Ran for 4, 3, 3, 2 songs (walked a song between each running interval). Running 12 songs in total means it must be about 40 minutes, so I guess around 5km! It felt good too, like breathing was regular and felt the effort but not exhausted and just wishing it would be finished.
Did u pass the test?
I have a little test of my own today. Last time I ran I did something to my calf which made walking difficult and running imposdible for a few days. Hoping for a nice, gentle jog on the ice today.
I didn’t fail it Doc put me on an anti inflammatory and it’s working magic. No pain during or after the run. I plan to do an easy 5k tomorrow.
@Cjp Feel better soon! Make sure to do a little more warmup stuff since your muscles are extra cold doing the winter.
