I have taken medication for drinking three times. First time was Campral to reduce cravings. It didn’t help a jot. I begged Dr to give me another one (not Antabuse but similar) but I would drink when I thought I could get away with it (i.e. the effects were wearing off - and suffered the bad effects - flushing, racing heartbeat, etc). I gave up on medicine, and tried on my own again. Not sure how long it took but I finally got really truly sick and tired of my own shit. Finally realised that alcohol could never be a part of my life again. Got stuck into recovery, and realised I had some Campral left, and took it, and felt that it helped get me over the 4 month wall that I had stumbled over before. Was also doing AA at this time. Long story short, medication can help, but only if you are truly willing and focused. I clearly remember crying at the Dr ā€œI just want the option of drinking to disappearā€. That was so passive. I wasn’t willing to put in the work. I take pride in choosing to not drink now. There are 5 or 6 places less than a 10 min bike ride away that I could get alcohol right now (at 9:45pm). But I would not and will not. You need that kind of determination, and then the medication can give you that extra push to make it easier.

@Misokatsu Thank you for sharing your experience with medications.

Night Check-in - Day 4

Yesterday, I booked an appointment with the doctor for today, but unfortunately, I did not go. I just rescheduled it because my father took my bike to go somewhere. I’m planning to consult my doctor after 14 days (2 weeks).

I have some food cravings today. Maybe I’ll go out to get dinner, but I’m not sure yet. I don’t know when my father will return.

I really impressed with this quote from Claudia.

ā€œWant something you never had before ?, Do something you never done beforeā€ - Exactly correct. we only know things that will going to happen if we stay sober.
In AA they were saying that miracles will happen in middle of the journey.

Check-in Day 5

I woke up just now 8.30am here, First priority is to check in my thread and gratitude thread.
Slept around 3am yesterday night.
There is no special plan for today. I will check-in again later

The sleep is going to be tough, but the nice thing about staying sober is that you’ll only have to go through withdrawals once!!

Super awesome to check in and practice gratitude first thing. Way to go!!

What else can you do for your sobriety today? My relapses have often come from boredom or lack of structure in my day. What else can you plan (going to the temple to pray, helping your mother around the house, exercising, etc)?

Reese, yes i only have to go through withdrawl once. I’m planning to join Gym near my home (2km from my home) but not now. i need to make some strength physically.

Gym is great, heahlty habits are a big part of sober life and reconnecting w yourself. I’m all for that.
But healthy habits alone won’t get or keep you sober. You need to do the work of learning why you drink, what is unbearable about your life so that you try to escape from it. Only by facing these fears and changing these circumstances and ourselves do we recover from addiction.
If you wanna go pump iron alongside that, that’s fantastic. There’s a gym thread also here you can come check out.

Check-in Day 6

Sleep was good. Woke up at 6:15 AM, and I hope my routine is getting back to normal.

I’m feeling sad about my 3-year-old female Labrador because, for the past four days, she has been refusing to enter her cage, and I don’t know why. Even if I try to push her inside, she still refuses.

The weather has gotten hotter, so maybe that’s the reason, or I have no idea why she’s behaving this way. I also noticed something around her back legs while she was walking—I think she might be in pain. I will consult a vet soon.

Now, going for a bath and then heading to the temple for prayer.

So sorry about your dog… hopefully the vet can help you identify and fix the problem! Sometimes i wish our animals could talk to us so that they can tell us what’s wrong.

Great job on 6 days. Almost a week free! Keep on checking in as often as possible. A bath and prayer sound like an excellent way to ā€œcleanā€ your body and spirit as you get clean from alcohol.

Take things one day at a time. Hour by hour or minute by minute if you must. Whatever you do, DO NOT pick up that first drink. You know that it’s never worth it.
