Self-care practices

I’ve been on this huge self-care kick lately. It’s sort of turning into a life philosophy, at this point. Instead of getting caught up in daily drama, feeling insecure, like a victim, etc., I try to address whatever the issue is by simply being kinder to myself, respecting myself more, and taking better care of myself. It’s enjoyable and indirectly resolves a lot of other things.
So, I was curious to hear what other people are doing to practice treating themselves better. Extra points for originality!
I’ve been paddle boarding, walking, stretching, eating more protein, eating better in general, eating less dairy and sugar, taking vitamins, using skin cream, drawing, praying, visualizing my day, staying in contact with friends, watching “community” and “attack on titan” (which i count as self care because i enjoy them), listening to self-help podcasts, drinking water, using a light therapy lamp, and I bought fancy insoles for my shoes!:heart::heart:
I’m excited to hear from everybody!

Love this topic on self care!! Im big on self care bcuz i think we all deserve to treat ourselves with gentleness and kindness and compassion.
Some things i do for self care:

  • Saying “no”. Avoid people pleasing.
  • Daily evening showers/baths
  • Followed by a good skin care routine
  • I enjoy exercise
  • Eating well is a big area of self care for me and one that I do struggle with from time to time (I also struggle with a disordered eating… which is even more important for me to eat well)
  • Keeping hydrated
  • Doing my nails
  • Prayer/meditation
  • Doing gratitide lists
  • Enhancing my environment (this also includes cleaning) as the condition of my enivronment plays a huge role on my mental health
  • Being out in nature (especially in the fall when the colors of the trees are just gorgeous)

Love ur ideas for self care also! I think u have a great list!!

Thanks  I think just slowing down and taking time for ourselves helps so much, especially in recovery. We havent always been so kind to ourselves, especially while in our addictions.

This is great!

I really enjoy cooking a nice meal for myself or watching a show I really enjoy.

Taking deep breaths and focusing on my breathing for a few minutes.

I also spend time with my HP ss much as I can in word as well as prayer.

I give myself time to nap or rest, as I tend to get overwhelmed and overstimulated.

Journaling and adult coloring.

I also like watching disney movies or cartoons.

I also enjoy driving to the bookstore with no intention of buying anything.

Listening to music also helps.

Thanks for sharing,it is a reminder for all of us the importance of self-care.For me it has been a process to learn how to take care of myself and not others. I am happy to say I have some tools to use from my sobriety. I am enough and other positive sayings are helpful to me. Also taking a
Having a morning coffee ,mediation and reading before the day gets busy is awesome! I also take a nap every afternoon to unwind and refresh. Sending postive replys on this forum has been good karma. Make time for self-care because you deserve it!
