First knee cap I got done a couple years back, the smile now part of a “smile now, cry later” duo. Quite painful, I’d say a 8/10 pain scale, not looking forward to the other side to be completely honest ![]()
This image was a popular visual guide for physicians to treat ailments and was used in printed books from the 15th-17th centuries. The “Wound Man” is meant to evoke sympathy from the viewer, standing defiantly despite his injuries.
This version is from Hans von Gersdorff’s Feldtbuch der Wundartzney (Strasburg, 1519)

The tattoo artist who did this work a few years back, a good friend from high school, died last year. It’s good to have a reminder of him while he was happy and healthy, and of the dangers of drinking.
