Sober All Sports

Family is never low key. I am happy to have Hubby. Tri tip, sweet potatoes and hot links. I looked at chips dip and salsa but we are really not into those. Also lately no beer for hubby. It has never been an issue for him but he is experiencing no value. He has to pee too often haha

So in my previous life NASCAR was part of the family life. I have been to the Daytona 500 a lifetime ago. Not sure if Hubby approved tv but have it on until he is back from Racquetball with breakfast ready. Let’s Go Racing!

What is the appeal of watching cars circle on a track? I never got it

What I had to do was learn all the car numbers and drivers’ names. Also loved the pit stops. Amazed how those guys could change tires and other maintenance in seconds. When we watched hubby at the time would call out a number to remind him who was the driver. It was the only way I could sit for hours watching cars. We went to drag races where fast was the game and only lasted seconds. It was horrible and never ever would go back. Way too loud .

Watching Ken Burns’ “Baseball” (documentary series covering baseball history from its birth in the 1840s up to 2009) in preparation of baseball season, like I did for the first time last year. Amazing series.

Fell in love with the early 20th century players, especially this time through. Decided to make a little shrine to the inaugural 5 players in the baseball hall of fame. Right at home in my office with all my other baseball stuff.

Top to bottom, left to right -

  • Honus Wagner, Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Babe Ruth, New York Yankees
  • Ty Cobb, Detroit Tigers
  • Walter Johnson, Washington Nationals
  • Christy Mathewson, New York Giants

Ah, the first Hall of Fame class. I especially love the photos of Wagner. His hands are huge. I used to watch the Ken Burns series during spring training. I think I can recite it from memory. My favorite eras are the 1880s-1930s. Favorites are the 1880s St. Louis Browns, 1890s Baltimore Orioles and Boston Beaneaters, and the deadball era NY Giants and Chicago White Sox. Today, I root for the Houston Astros, a team I have supported since the Colt .45s became the Astros in 1965 and I was born. It’s nice to find another deadball era fan. Love the photos.

Formula 1, 2025
I can’t wait for the new season to kick off. It’s going to be amazing, and boy has it been a long Winter with no racing. Personally, if you could strap an engine to a flys arse and let them race I’d watch it, so for me, it’s both a passion and an amazing distraction for this journey I am on.

My goal is to one day get to a full race weekend to show my support for McLaren.

Is anyone else interested in Motorsport?
