Sober Hunting (TW: contains photos of animals and guns...)

Raspberry balsamic as a marinade…it is phenomenal

Where do I begin… first, what cut are the steaks? I know from personal opinions that not everyone cares for venison due to the “gaminess.” I’ve never minded it, which is why I hunt deer.

Anyways, there are three routes you could go. Marinade, dry rub season, or frying it.

I have a homemade marinade which has olive oil, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, a little red pepper, garlic, onion, salt , pepper, and other seasonings. The steaks are less fatty than traditional beef.

Dry rubs are endless. Mix and match to your preference.

The last way, which is how I cook it for when people have never had it is to cube the steaks, to in flower, and cook them using a garlic butter mix with some herbs.

This is what I am looking for. I don’t mind the gaminess at all. I’ve been eating deer as long as I can remember so I guess it’s just natural to me lol.

@NateRC hey I browsed the comments did see a location on this where are you…??? Awesome JOB!!! i still have a few weeks till my opening day in WI but i have no idea if I’m going… this is a sad year no West trip due to funds and my brother not able to go… very much looking forward to next year!!!

How do you like that Creedmore!!! that’s going to be my next round when I want to afford it… I just got the Bergara 7mm Mag

I’m in Montana. Gotta love the big sky state.

I love it. It’s a 6.5 300 weatherby tho. Not a creedmoor. Best shooting gun I’ve had

legit had to look this up to see what it is!!! looks like a solid firearm!!!

Resident or non resident? last year I was hunting in black hills of WY, we went up to the boarder of WY and MT a little bit looking for Mule Deer but that’s about it

Flat shooting, and fast! I also shoot a .257 weatherby, another great caliber. I like my weatherby guns. I’m somewhat of a hoarder of hunting rifles, and my wife hates it lol

Yea I like firearms… I have my AR in 556, my old rem .270 now my new one 7mm mag… soo dont need a new one yet and my 7mm mag will do the trick for just about anything I need it to. do you tell the wife how much you spend in optics for them bad boys lolol

Ive got a older .270 Remington model 700. Ive had it since i was 15, im 33 now. It was the first gun that was mine. My pops bought it for me.

WE have the Same .270!!! tradition was grandpa bought all they boys there first rifle. so he got me the .270 semi auto in a synthetic stock. ill be 30 in feb so yea that’s fucking awesome!!

I can personally state that the .270 had killed every big game animal in North America. Small deer all the way to a bison. It’s all about shot placement. My wife shit when she saw the price of my new scope.

The gaminess is what I love about it. To me it is supposed to taste different than steak.
I can go to the grocery store and buy a flipping steak. But not wild game. Nope, that’s seasonal

Like when I would bird hunt in Alaska. All my friends there (that grew up hunting birds) would try to only shoot the birds with white meat like Willow Grouse and such.

Not me man. If I wanted something that tasted like chicken, I would buy it at the store. I was all about the Spruce Hen and Ptarmigan. They were dark meat. Gamie in other words

My hubby has a Creedmore. He hunts deer and is a “firearms enthusiast” I guess you could say lol. So he has many, many firearms. A bit different regulations here in Canada though I think. He also does sports shooting events & stuff, and reloads his own ammo. I’m not keen on sport hunting personally (no offence)… I get teary-eyed seeing roadkill :joy: but I have done some target shooting with some of his guns on our acreage and at the range. Although I tend to stick to .22 rifle and pistol as some of the others make me a bit nervous but still gave some of them a shot (haha, I’m punny). My dad was army his entire life but we never had firearms at home. But he was proud when he found out I was a good shot lol.

My favorite gun, from my little “collection”, 30-30.
Its a 100th anniversary Henry firearms stainless steel. Only fired a few rounds from her.

@Cincoflats You may like this thread

one day ill build one when I have the money but ill use it to shooting sports… then ill start reloading as well… soo not sure about Canada but with everything going on in the US all reloading supplies and ammo are on a shortage… everyone is struggling to get anything. the shelves are empty except the one off rounds that no one has. I use to reload shotgun but I stopped that years ago… ill do rifle eventually just for the consistency of it, and things like that are quite relaxing for me. soooo I do get sad when I see animals on the side of the road just a bad way to die and just a waste of a harvest. I can totally support you in the .22 lol I want a 17 HMR that’s one thing I dont have is a small caliber rifle so that’s on my list for next things I need for the collection. I’m actually not surprised that your dad didn’t have any firearms its quit common actually… tell him thank you for his service even though it was not with the US (assuming) still a great deal of respect. I did 7 years in the army and got out.
