Nearly new year here. I get a bit anxious at the idea of a new year, with all the expectations of what that should bring.
Back to now. I am grateful to have a roof over my head and food in the fridge. Iām sober which means waking up with no hangover, no shame or regrets and no stressing over how much money I spent.

Well, I tried karaoke for NYE and it didnāt go well. No karaoke really happened. But I went, which was the victory here! I went to face my anxiety and I did do that.
Now, what to do?

Best way for me to stay sober. I picked up the easiest overtime shift ever. Now Iāll be working until 3am keeping the general public safe. Cheers! Happy New Year!

There were a lot of things going on in that room. Loud startling noises periodically sending me into fight-or-flight reactions, sensory overload in general, social discord, me not knowing anyone there, difficult personalities, etc. Only one person really sang too, and that was a cappella at the beginning. I didnāt have a decent opening to engage as I had hoped. However, I showed up to expand my comfort zone, and managed my anxiety in a situation that was difficult for me, and I consider that a success.
I still have yet to do karaoke at all. But one day! Itāll be fun.

Was it a karaoke bar? Iām just curious because Iāve never been to one. My only experiences of karaoke have been post-midnight in dive bars!

No, this was in a meeting room in a residence of sorts. Standard fluorescent lighting, everyone around a long table, music being squeezed through TV built-in speakers, no real plan or structure to the event.
