Sober reading material/resources thread?

I have been exploring some self-help books and memoir to support me being sober over the past year or so. I’ve found memoir, self-help and theory especially helpful. But I was wondering, do people have any blogs, podcasts, reading material, books, zines, or articles they have found helpful in recovery? I especially love personal essay style type stuff but open to anything. Short or long, serialised or one off, anything!

I’ll post a few of mine, by category

Memoir:

Caroline Knapp, Drinking: A Love Story

Jill Stark, High Sobriety

Elspeth Muir, Wasted

Bill Clegg, Portrait of the Addict as a Young Man

These books all contain a bit of potentially triggering scenes of binge drinking and drug use so proceed with caution, but I found them helpful.

Nice! That’s interesting Dan, from my (very limited) understanding of yoga in its traditional form it is definitely not only for women. I’ve done a bit recently and it’s very good for relaxation and learning to be present in the body.

My 2 favorite podcasts:

  • HOME Podcast (found via Laura Mckowen’s blog or through Hip Sobriety)
  • Since Right Now

Both are incredibly insightful and provide resources through their respective sites and numerous guests…listening to these particular podcasts have helped show me that we are far from alone in this struggle
